East Mississippi State Hospital is a state-operated healthcare facility under the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, providing comprehensive inpatient psychiatric, residential, substance use disorder, and long-term care services to individuals across the region. About the Position
The Director of Security and Transportation is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and administrative direction for East Mississippi State Hospital's security and transportation operations across assigned campuses and programs. Functioning within the Law Enforcement Officer Administrator classification, this position directs activities related to campus security, public safety support, patient and staff transportation coordination, emergency response, and operational coverage to help ensure a safe, secure, and well-coordinated environment. The Director develops and implements departmental plans, staffing assignments, procedures, and accountability measures for security and transportation services in accordance with EMSH, DMH, MSPB, and other applicable standards. This position also serves as a key operational leader in coordinating response to incidents, supporting after-hours needs, and working collaboratively with hospital leadership and departments to protect patients, staff, visitors, property, and hospital operations.
What youll need to be Successful
To be successful in this position, the employee must demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to oversee complex public safety operations across all EMSH campuses, including Main Campus, BASAC, RPW, JTC, Newton, and Kemper. The employee should be able to supervise staff effectively, coordinate emergency and routine operations, manage investigations and reporting, and maintain productive working relationships with hospital leadership, outside agencies, and the public. Success in this role also requires professionalism, accountability, operational awareness, and a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and the effective delivery of public safety services across the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification and 10-12 years of experience in law enforcement. Preferred: Experience in law enforcement supervision, public safety operations, security management, transportation coordination, investigations, emergency response, report review, and staff training is preferred. Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, campus law enforcement, or institutional safety operations is also preferred.
