Black Hawk Schools is seeking a passionate, experienced leader to serve as our Director of Special Education and Pupil Services on a part-time basis (0.4 FTE / approximately 2 days per week). Perfect for a retired or semi-retired school administrator looking to stay engaged in education without the demands of a full-time schedule.
This is an ideal opportunity for a veteran educator to mentor staff, ensure regulatory compliance, and deeply impact a small student body, while maintaining an excellent work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership: Oversee the district's Special Education programs and paraprofessionals.
Compliance & Reporting: Ensure district compliance with local, state (DPI), and federal laws (IDEA) regarding special education and student records.
Staff Support & Collaboration: Guide and support special education teachers and support staff in managing IEPs, evaluations, and student accommodations.
Community Relations: Act as a resource and liaison for parents, families, and community agencies to ensure every student has the tools to succeed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Licensure: Must hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Director of Special Education and/or Pupil Services (License #5080) certification.
Experience: Previous administrative experience in special education or pupil services is highly preferred.
Skills: Strong understanding of Wisconsin special education law, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset suited for a small-school environment.

Compensation: $450 - $550 per day (depending on experience)
