A 388-bed acute care hospital in San Jose is seeking a Director of Surgical Services to lead its perioperative operations. This facility is nationally recognized, including five consecutive Outstanding Achievement Awards from the Commission on Cancer, and serves as a designated Primary Stroke Center.

This leadership role reports to the Vice President of Surgical Services and provides oversight of a 12-OR surgical department supporting a wide range of specialties, including General Surgery, Spine, Orthopedics, Open Heart, and Neurosurgery. The department also operates a robust robotics program featuring multiple platforms, including Globus, Mako, ROSA, and da Vinci systems.

The Director is responsible for overall surgical services performance, including clinical quality, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This includes driving evidence-based practice, reducing variation in care, and improving patient outcomes across all surgical service lines.

Key areas of accountability include patient throughput, staffing and labor management, supply utilization, and cost control initiatives. The role also partners closely with physicians and hospital leadership to support program development, expand service lines, and enhance perioperative operations.

This position leads a team of approximately 50–55 FTEs supported by an operational manager and plays a key role in shaping both day-to-day performance and long-term surgical strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred

  • Minimum of 1 year of recent leadership experience in Surgical Services (Director or strong manager-level experience required)

  • At least 3 years of clinical Surgical Services experience required

Schedule:

  • Full-time

  • Day shift

  • Rotating weekends

Compensation:

  • $184,683 – $276,848 per year

  • Incentive bonus up to 17.5%
