About AFC
AFC Transport is a growing transportation and logistics company with operations across the U.S. and an international support team. We're entering a major growth phase and need a strong people leader to help build the structure, leadership bench, training systems, culture, and talent foundation required to scale.
This isn't a slow corporate environment. We're building something ambitious, with a strong foundation, expanding fleet, growing logistics operations, and a clear vision for what's next.
The Role
The Director of Talent will work directly with the CEO and executive team as a strategic advisor on people, leadership, organizational structure, culture, training, hiring, retention, and performance.
We're looking for a builder. Someone who knows that people, leadership, culture, and training aren't the "soft" parts of the business — they're major drivers of performance, retention, growth, and company value.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a strategic people advisor to the CEO and executive team
- Design and execute the people strategy required to support AFC's next stage of growth
- Partner with leaders to improve organizational structure, role clarity, accountability, communication, and leadership effectiveness
- Build and lead people development programs: leadership training, manager training, career paths, succession planning, and employee growth plans
- Create training programs for managers, operations teams, sales, logistics, support staff, and future leaders
- Define and reinforce AFC's culture, values, leadership principles, and expected behaviors
- Lead culture-building initiatives that strengthen ownership, urgency, accountability, teamwork, service, loyalty, and continuous improvement
- Build systems for performance management, feedback, coaching, recognition, engagement, and retention
- Help leaders identify talent gaps, performance issues, development needs, and future leadership potential
- Redesign onboarding so new employees understand AFC's culture, expectations, systems, and how to succeed
- Lead recruiting strategy for key leadership, corporate, operations, sales, logistics, driver support, and specialized roles
- Build a consistent hiring process using scorecards, structured interviews, assessments, and clear decision-making standards
- Own AFC's employer brand and recruitment marketing strategy
- Develop campaigns, content, employee stories, social media strategy, and candidate messaging that show why AFC is a great place to build a career
- Track talent, culture, training, and people KPIs (retention, turnover, engagement, quality of hire, leadership bench strength, training completion, internal promotions, performance trends, employee satisfaction)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- 10+ years of experience in talent leadership, people operations, HR leadership, organizational development, learning & development, culture building, or a related people function
- Proven experience building people systems in a growing company
- Strong background in employee development, manager training, leadership coaching, performance management, succession planning, and retention
- Experience advising CEOs, founders, executives, or senior leadership on people strategy and organizational development
- Experience building or improving company culture in a fast-moving business environment
- Experience creating training programs, leadership development programs, onboarding systems, and career path frameworks
- Strong understanding of recruiting, hiring process design, employer branding, and talent acquisition strategy
- Ability to use data, systems, assessments, surveys, AI tools, ATS platforms, and analytics to improve people decisions
- Excellent communication, writing, judgment, organization, emotional intelligence, and follow-through
Preferred Experience
- Transportation, logistics, supply chain, industrial services, private equity-backed companies, or high-growth founder-led businesses
- Driver recruiting, operations recruiting, sales recruiting, or high-volume hiring
- Building an employer brand and recruitment marketing strategy from the ground up
- Developing leaders in operational, sales, logistics, or multi-location environments
- Helping a company scale by improving structure, accountability, training, culture, and leadership depth
Who You Are
You're strategic but hands-on. Comfortable advising the CEO one moment and building a training process or coaching a manager the next. You're direct, organized, people-smart, practical, and strong enough to challenge leaders when needed. You know how to build trust, communicate clearly, and help people grow without lowering standards.
What Success Looks Like
- Stronger leaders at every level
- Managers who are better trained, more consistent, and more accountable
- Employees who understand the company's values, expectations, and standards
- New hires who onboard faster and become productive sooner
- High performers who see a future at AFC and want to grow here
- Internal promotions increasing across the organization
- Consistent training across departments
- A stronger leadership bench
- Culture that operates as a real competitive advantage
- A CEO and executive team with a trusted people advisor guiding growth decisions
- AFC becomes known as a place where high-performing people build serious careers
