Job Description: Director of IT

CEG Solutions LLC is a leading national Energy Service Company (ESCO) delivering transformative sustainability and infrastructure projects. Originating as a general contractor, we pair deep construction expertise with rigorous data analysis to provide turnkey, design-build energy and water efficiency solutions at no upfront cost to our clients.

With over $1 billion in projects awarded or in development, we partner with federal, state, and local governments, as well as healthcare and education sectors, to modernize complex facilities. Following our recent 2025 merger with Iconergy, we continue to expand our mission to improve the built environment through innovation, technical excellence, and guaranteed results.

Role Summary

The IT Director is a strategic, people-focused technology leader responsible for guiding the company's technology vision, strengthening cybersecurity posture, and driving adoption of emerging technologies—especially AI—to improve operational efficiency across project development, construction operations, project management, and corporate functions.

This role oversees a small internal IT staff and manages the company's outsourced Managed Service Provider (MSP). The IT Director is not expected to perform hands-on technical tasks; instead, they excel at leadership, vendor management, communication, and aligning technology initiatives with business goals.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic communicator who builds trust with senior executives, project leaders, field teams, and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and execute a 1-to-2-year technology strategy focused on cybersecurity maturity, AI adoption, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner closely with senior executives to understand business priorities and translate them into actionable technology initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies relevant to construction (AI, automation, digital workflows, IoT, jobsite connectivity) and recommend practical adoption paths.

AI & Emerging Technology Enablement

  • Identify high-value use cases for AI across project management, estimating, scheduling, procurement, safety, and back-office operations.
  • Champion responsible AI adoption, including governance, training, and change management.
  • Drive pilot programs for AI-powered tools such as document automation, predictive analytics, and intelligent workflows.

Cybersecurity Governance

  • Lead the company's cybersecurity program, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements (including CMMC-related expectations).
  • Oversee MSP-driven security operations, including monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, and employee security awareness training.
  • Establish cybersecurity policies, risk assessments, and executive reporting.
  • Perform annual CMMC Level 2 self-attestation of compliance.

Vendor & MSP Management

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for the MSP, ensuring service quality, responsiveness, and alignment with business needs.
  • Negotiate contracts, SLAs, and performance metrics with technology vendors.
  • Coordinate MSP activities with internal IT staff to ensure seamless support.

Team Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small internal IT team focused on customer service and operational excellence.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate technology initiatives clearly and enthusiastically to non-technical stakeholders.

Technology Operations Oversight

  • Oversee MSP-managed infrastructure, cloud services, networking, and end-user support.
  • Ensure reliable technology operations across office locations and construction jobsites.
  • Maintain IT policies, asset management, licensing, and compliance documentation.

Executive Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Present technology strategy, risks, and progress to senior leadership.
  • Build strong relationships with engineers, project managers, field superintendents, and corporate teams to ensure technology solutions meet real-world needs.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executives on technology trends and business impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field required.
  • Master's degree in Management, Technology, Engineering Management, or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, ideally in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or similar operational industries.
  • Experience managing MSPs and vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated success leading technology strategy, cybersecurity programs, and organizational change.
