Director of Visual Media
We are searching for an experienced Director of Visual Media at our Belmont''s Main Campus facility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Visual Media is responsible for shaping and executing the overarching strategy for video and still photography to effectively advance Belmont University's brand, spread its mission, support its vision, and drive enrollment and investment. This role involves providing visionary leadership for the capture, production, and editing of high-quality visual content. The Director of Visual Media oversees the visual media team, ensuring excellence in visual storytelling and development across various platforms. Collaborating closely with UMAC colleagues and partners across campus, the Director ensures that visual media serves recruitment and engagement projects, reputational needs, executive communications, live-streamed events, social media, website needs, advertising, and special initiatives.
This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications and is a supervisory role. This position is responsible for a team of 2 direct staff and multiple student workers.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive visual media strategy that aligns with Belmont University''s brand and mission. This role creates and executes on visual content strategies to achieve University marketing and communication objectives through compelling visual storytelling. Oversee integrated photographic and video productions.
- Develop, film, edit and assemble final video content, including scripting, interviewing, selecting scenes, color correction, audio mixing, transitions, special effects, graphics, narration, voiceover, background music and brand each video consistently by the University's brand standards.
- Lead the visual media team, fostering a culture of creativity, innovation and excellence while managing production schedules, team workloads, deadlines and budgets. Oversee integrated production of video and still photography content, ensuring high standards and impactful storytelling to meet client requests and University needs. Maintain simultaneous ongoing projects, communicating with professional and student staff, vendors, supervisor and project collaborators.
- Contribute to visual content marketing strategy and storytelling. Stay abreast of how content is being consumed and optimize its findability and share ability across all channels to serve diverse audiences and support marketing and communications goals. Keep abreast of new technologies.
- Supervise purchase, maintenance and organization all video content and equipment, including, but not limited to, cameras, lens, lighting and audio equipment. Manage system for storing, organizing and tagging all gathered raw and edited visual assets in a consistent way that enables easy identification and access.
- Create, deliver and archive visual assets on deadline while ensuring creative products are in compliance with copyright, ADA and other requirements. Train partners across campus in the best practices of video production, including, but not limited to, filming with smartphones and editing footage to create video content that is consistent with the University's brand standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position often works in an outdoor environment and may not be protected from weather conditions. This position''s physical requirements include sitting, repetitive hand motion, hearing/listening, talking, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, reaching overhead, pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience filming with DSLR cameras and a strong knowledge of cinematographic techniques to ensure the best possible angles and lighting for filming footage and recording high quality audio.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in video editing, including image manipulation, color correction, and color grading techniques using Adobe Creative Suite (Premier and AfterEffects) on Apple Mac Computers.
- An ability to identify issues, obtain relevant information, relate and compare data from different sources, and identify alternative solutions.
- Interprets and seeks information, uses independent reasoning to diagnose the root cause of situations or issues, identifies
and tests solutions and thinks beyond what is typical or customary. Uses information to determine benefits and impact in making decision and/or recommendations.
- An ability to coordinate and administer programs/project activities and protocols. An ability to manage resources, monitor activities, and assess risks and quality issues associated with the program/project.
- An ability to present information to individuals or groups; ability to deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to ensure that they understand the information and the message. An ability to listen and respond appropriately to others. An ability to impact and influence others to further the institution's strategic objectives.
- An ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and basic databases and software.
