Director of Volunteer Services

**Pay Rate up to $29/hour**

Responsibilities of a Director of Volunteer Services:
- Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit and retain qualified volunteers with the appropriate abilities and aptitudes.
- Train and manage volunteers; assist volunteers to establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, residents, and guests.
- Monitor, evaluate, support and motivate volunteers.
- Research and write volunteer policies, procedures, and role descriptions for new volunteer opportunities.
- Collaborate with department heads within the organization to identify volunteer needs and generate appropriate volunteer opportunities and role descriptions based on those needs.
- Conduct volunteer orientations and ensure there is appropriate volunteer support and specific task training for new volunteers.
- Manage budgets and resources, including the reimbursement of expenses.
- Keep up to date with legislation and policy related to volunteerism and make any necessary modifications to accommodate changes. Abide by regulatory requirements for volunteer screening, confidentiality and vaccinations.
- Working hours vary, depending on whether involved in recruitment efforts, community outreach or training and administrative roles. Evening and weekend work will be necessary.
- Volunteer director will be required to travel within a working day on a local level.
Requirements of a Director of Volunteer Services:
- Undergraduate degree with a focus in business and management studies or human resource management helpful. Entry without a degree is possible for the right person with the right experience of 3 or more years' experience relevant to leading volunteers and developing volunteer programs. Experience implementing volunteer projects and plans; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Administrative and IT skills, and an ability to maintain records and produce clear written reports
- Understanding of recruitment processes, and talent in motivating others to join and participate
- Desire to work in complex, multi?disciplinary environment
- Capacity to be self?directed while working as a member of a larger team
- Supervisory skills, with a talent for empowering responsible and self?motivated volunteers
- Familiarity with administrative and database tracking systems
- Detail oriented and able to multi?task
- Ability to deal with a diverse range of people
- Valid driver's license.
