Director of Warehouse Operations & Leadership

NYC Metropolitan Area | Onsite | Full-Time

Estimated Salary: $200,000 - $250,000 (Compensation commensurate with experience)

The Business Problem

The company has built a substantial warehouse and distribution operation and now needs a senior operational leader who can strengthen leadership, create accountability at every level, and ensure the operation consistently delivers results without constant executive involvement.

This role is not about personally solving warehouse problems.

It is about building leaders who solve warehouse problems.

The challenge is to develop a leadership organization capable of making sound decisions, driving operational excellence, improving performance, and executing with discipline while supporting the company's continued growth.

Success will come from building a leadership team that consistently delivers inventory accuracy, fulfillment performance, labor productivity, safety excellence, and operational scalability through strong leadership and accountability.

What You'll Own

Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead managers and supervisors through clear expectations, measurable outcomes, coaching, and consistent accountability.

  • Build a culture where leaders take ownership of results, solve problems proactively, and drive execution.

  • Coach, develop, and strengthen leadership capability throughout the organization.

  • Build succession plans and leadership bench strength across the operation.

  • Establish operating rhythms, scorecards, and accountability systems that drive sustainable performance.

Operational Leadership

  • Own the overall performance of receiving, inventory control, warehousing, fulfillment, and distribution operations.

  • Ensure leaders are executing consistently across all operational functions.

  • Drive alignment between operational goals, labor resources, inventory requirements, and customer demand.

  • Remove operational bottlenecks impacting safety, productivity, inventory accuracy, service, or throughput.

  • Ensure operational decisions support long-term scalability and business growth.

Planning & Execution

  • Build operational plans weeks, months, and quarters ahead.

  • Align labor, equipment, facility capacity, and inventory requirements with future business demand.

  • Lead proactive operational decision-making rather than reactive problem solving.

  • Ensure resources are positioned to support growth while maintaining operational excellence.

Continuous Improvement

  • Build a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.

  • Apply Lean principles to improve efficiency, throughput, productivity, and operational consistency.

  • Drive sustainable process improvements through leadership ownership and accountability.

  • Establish standardized operating practices that improve execution, consistency, and long-term scalability.

Safety Leadership

  • Own safety culture and performance throughout the operation.

  • Ensure leaders actively identify risks, address issues, and maintain safe working environments.

  • Build accountability around safety performance at every leadership level.

  • Foster a culture where safety is a core leadership responsibility.

Financial Performance

  • Own labor productivity, operational efficiency, and warehouse operating costs.

  • Use operational metrics and reporting to drive decision-making.

  • Ensure resources are deployed effectively to support operational objectives.

  • Identify opportunities to improve cost performance without sacrificing service or quality.

Success in This Role

  • Leadership team consistently delivering results with minimal executive intervention.

  • Improved manager and supervisor performance.

  • Increased labor productivity and operational efficiency.

  • Improved inventory accuracy.

  • Improved fulfillment and service performance.

  • Increased warehouse throughput.

  • Reduced safety incidents.

  • Improved planning and forecasting capability.

  • Sustainable culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Leadership bench capable of supporting future growth.

Requirements

  • Experience leading large-scale warehouse, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or operational environments.

  • Proven experience leading managers, supervisors, and multi-layer leadership teams.

  • Strong planning, forecasting, and operational decision-making capability.

  • Experience building high-performance teams and leadership cultures.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to operate successfully in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.

Must-Haves

  • Proven experience leading managers, supervisors, and multi-layer leadership teams.

  • Demonstrated success leading leaders within warehouse, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or similar operational environments.

  • Proven track record improving operational performance through leadership, accountability, and execution.

  • Experience building performance management systems, scorecards, and accountability structures.

  • Strong leadership development, coaching, and succession planning experience.

  • Good understanding of Lean concepts.

  • Experience improving warehouse KPIs including productivity, throughput, inventory accuracy, labor utilization, safety, service levels, or operational efficiency.

  • Strong operational planning and forecasting capability.

  • Data-driven leadership style with strong business judgment.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.

Final Invitation

If you are a leadership-focused operator who has successfully built strong teams, developed leaders, created accountability, and improved operational performance through people, this is an opportunity to lead a critical warehouse and distribution operation while making a lasting impact on the organization's future growth.
