Position Summary

The Director of Workforce Development is responsible for management of the Workforce Development Division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide proper Leadership and Management to employees to meet departmental and college goals.
  • Plan, recruit, market, promote, administer and manage classes and business solutions for the Workforce Development Division, including Career Skills, Training for Business & Industry, Ready to Work, and Continuing Education.
  • Serve as liaison to business/industry, state agencies, government, economic development and associations to meet workforce needs.
  • Prepare reports related to enrollment in workforce credit programs
  • Research and prepare grants related to workforce and career technical education initiatives.
  • Assist in the implementation of various Workforce Pell programs.
  • Administrator for Registered Apprenticeship Programs, manage industry partnerships, recruit students, maintain and enter records in RAPIDS, engage with Alabama Office of Apprenticeship, promote and market the program.
  • Foster a customer service environment for fellow employees, students, and visitors. Be an Ambassador for the College. Support the college's initiative to maximize retention of current students and enable students to finish their collegiate goals.
  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the ACCS Chancellor's Office, and the College.
  • Participate in College functions (Award and Honor events, Alumni Homecoming, Commencement, etc.).
  • Assume other work related responsibilities as assigned by the appropriately assigned College administrator.

Qualifications

The Director of Workforce Development must have a minimum of a bachelors degree, a master's degree is preferred. Demonstrated experience with management and supervision is required.

Experience working in a college setting in the areas of training for business and industry and/or community education is preferred.

This position is not on the tenure/non-probationary track pursuant to Alabama Act 2024-360 and ACCS Policy and Procedure 204.01, wherein any person who is being employed into an executive and administrative management personnel position (whether a new hire or whether a current employee who is being transferred, reorganized, or otherwise moved into such position) shall enter into an employment contract with the College's President on or after July 1, 2024.

Sick Leave

All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. For more information visit The Retirement Systems of Alabama. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers Retirement System of Alabama.

Health Insurance

PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control. If desired, the employee may elect four options rather than health insurance options to include hospital indemnity, cancer, dental, and vision.

Tuition Assistance

This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:

  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
