Overview:
Auburn Athletics seeks a Director of Physical Therapy Services & Athletic Rehabilitation to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and clinical direction for Auburn Athletics' rehabilitation and physical therapy services. Directs the development and administration of comprehensive rehabilitation programs that support student-athlete health, performance, and return-to-play outcomes. Partners with sports medicine, sports science, coaching staff, and university leadership to establish best practices, optimize healthcare delivery, ensure regulatory compliance, and advance departmental goals and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Provides strategic and administrative leadership for Auburn Athletics' rehabilitation services, including departmental planning, program development, resource allocation, and operational effectiveness.
- Directs the delivery of rehabilitation and physical therapy services for intercollegiate student-athletes, ensuring evidence-based care and exceptional patient outcomes.
- Develops and implements department-wide rehabilitation philosophies, protocols, standards, and performance metrics to promote consistency and continuous improvement.
- Supervises, develops, and evaluates rehabilitation personnel and associated support staff while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
- Oversees budgeting, equipment planning, facility operations, vendor relationships, and other administrative functions supporting rehabilitation services.
- Serves as a strategic partner to team physicians, athletic trainers, sports scientists, performance specialists, mental health professionals, and coaching staff on injury management and return-to-participation decisions.
- Leads the integration of sports science, performance analytics, and rehabilitation technologies to enhance student-athlete recovery and performance outcomes.
- Oversees medical documentation, compliance practices, and risk management activities to ensure adherence to NCAA, SEC, University, and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Evaluates emerging trends, research, and innovations in rehabilitation and sports medicine and recommends initiatives that enhance service delivery and athlete care.
- Represents Auburn Athletics in professional organizations, university committees, and external partnerships while advancing the strategic objectives of Sports Medicine and Athletics. May assist with medical coverage as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Physical Therapy
- 5 years of experience in the coordination and/or management of rehabilitation and/or physical therapy services.
OR
- Doctor of Physical Therapy
- 3 years of experience in the coordination and/or management of rehabilitation and/or physical therapy services.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Physical Therapist Licensed in the State of Alabama by the Alabama Board of Physical Therapy
Desired Qualifications:
- Sports Physical Therapy Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS)
- D1 Sports Physical Therapy Fellowship
- Athletic Trainer Cert or dual- credentialed PT/ATC
- Cert Strength Cond Spec Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
- Corrective Exercise Specialist
- Selective Functional Movement Assessment Certification
- Dry Needling Certification
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Southeastern Conference (SEC) rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of rehabilitative and physical therapy techniques, treatment plans, and emerging rehabilitation innovations.
- Skills in personnel management and budget planning.
- Skill in analyzing rehabilitation outcomes, performance data, and operational metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Skill in developing and implementing rehabilitation philosophies, protocols, standards, and performance metrics.
- Ability to provide strategic leadership for a comprehensive athletics rehabilitation program.
