The Director of Safety Compliance is responsible for monitoring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations and codes governing safety to maintain a safe environment for all related functions and facilities of InnovAge. The Director of Safety Compliance shall develop, implement, and enforce safety regulatory compliant standards of practice to include fire safety, general safety, physical environment safety, and transportation safety.
Functional Category: Management of Safety Compliance Program
Estimated Percent of time Spent – 75%
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal stakeholders, including management, other corporate groups and teams, business lines and regions to build consensus and leverage cross-functional resources to mitigate safety risks to the organization.
• Coordinate with relevant stakeholders and staff to enforce compliance with policies and standards to help ensure consistent application of safety practices across the organization and timely response to various safety events.
• Develop and implement safety risk and compliance audits for all InnovAge properties. Leverage stakeholder relationships to influence successful mitigation of resulting safety findings.
• Develop, implement, enforce, and update safety-related standards and procedures.
• Assists in the development of standardized and consistent enterprise policies to ensure compliance with safety related regulations and guidelines.
• Maintains current knowledge of federal, state, CMS, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
• Monitor to ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations and codes governing safety.
• Manages department budget, approves purchases, and negotiates appropriate vender contracts for the safety compliance program.
• Develops short and long-term strategic goals in alignment with enterprise strategic goals.
• Develops and provides safety education and awareness, conducts briefings, and participates in inspections and audits.
• Oversees the creation and implementation of facility safety accountability model and on-site reviews and audits to ensure compliance with the model.
• Monitors all current information on regulations and requirements related to hazardous materials and agents.
• Directs the industrial hygiene, occupation, and general safety programs to ensure a safe environment and compliance with safety standards.
• Leads the improvement of safety operations, safety training, and applicable safety compliance programs.
• Assists in the new employee orientation process by ensuring the provision of safety related training.
• Ensures a formal accident/incident investigation program that includes root cause analysis.
• Promotes a heightened awareness of workplace safety by setting a tone that engages employees.
Functional Category: Supervision
Estimated Percent of time Spent – 25%
• Effectively supervises and manages direct staff reports and provides, by example and leadership, motivation and direction to employees of the organization.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable state and federal employment laws.
• Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing and rewarding employees; corrective disciplinary procedures and practices (under direction of supervisor and in partnership with Human Resources), addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Ensures annual employee performance reviews are conducted in a timely and effective manner. Evaluates performance of employees for compliance with established policies and objectives of the organization and contributions in attaining objectives.
• Helps set the tone of the department to ensure morale, teamwork, and that the positive employment culture of the organization is maintained.
• Regularly schedules leadership/management, department, and staff 1:1 meetings to provide leadership, development, and a forum for communication to ensure coordination and collaboration in meeting organization and individual goals.

Qualifications

REQUIRED
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience in related field.
Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation
• Requires state issued driver’s license, personal transportation, good driving record and auto insurance as required by law and the ability to travel.
• Requires Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) designation or ability to obtain within one (1) years of hire date.
Work Experience and Qualifications
• Minimum ten (10) years of combined broad-based Safety Administration/Management experience required.
• Ideal candidate will have safety experience in the healthcare industry at health delivery and/or insurance organizations.
• Strong leadership and management skills and a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience supervising staff and managing a Safety department.
• Previous experience and proven ability to effectively train/educate adult learners.
PREFERRED
Education
• Bachelor’s degree preferably in Safety Management related field.
Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation
• BCSP Certified Safety Professional (CSP), preferred.
• Other Safety related license or certification.
Work Experience and Qualifications
• Minimum 10 years of experience in safety with several of those years in healthcare preferred.
• Demonstrated subject matter expertise in safety operations, with a clear understanding of risk management principles.
• In-depth knowledge on the design, implementation, and maintenance of safety programs and service as well as conducting investigations.
• Ability to perform in-depth investigations for safety incidents to include fact-finding, interviewing, recommending corrective action measures, and compiling and reporting results to leadership.
• Experience with providing safety monitoring and incident response for a corporate environment.
• High-level critical thinking and analytical skills, management experience and exceptional relationship management competencies to understand the impact and sensitivity of safety issues.
• An advanced and functional understanding of current and emerging safety industry standards, technologies and systems.
• Ability to develop and project-manage full life-cycle implementations for core safety programs, including creation of policies, standards, guideline, processes, procedures, plans and tactical deployment of safety technologies.
