Director, Software Product

Job Description:

HITT is seeking a Director of Software Product to lead the teams that turn its agentic engineering practice into working software. This is a hands-on leadership role for a product-minded builder: someone who is happiest close to the work — shaping backlogs, pressure-testing prototypes, clearing blockers — and who knows how to get small, AI-augmented teams to ship. The products in the portfolio will change over time; the mandate will not: deliver software that elevates the business of building.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Software Product manages a HITT’s agentic pod or pods — small, lean, agile teams in which AI-fluent engineers build alongside AI agents — and is accountable for what those pods deliver. This leader owns the software product portfolio for their area end to end: partnering with business and field leaders to find the highest-value problems, translating them into clear product bets, sequencing the roadmap, and driving delivery through rapid, iterative cycles.

Because HITT builds software for builders, everything this role ships must earn adoption in high-velocity, decentralized field environments, on jobsites, in trailers, and in offices, by users of many backgrounds. The specific applications and features will evolve as HITT’s business and technology evolve; the Director’s charge is durable: keep the pods pointed at what matters most, keep them shipping, and keep raising the standard for what construction software can do.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Portfolio

  • Own the software product portfolio and roadmap, continuously prioritizing initiatives by business value, adoption potential, and strategic fit as HITT’s needs evolve

  • Lead product discovery with business, operations, and field partners across the full value chain — from preconstruction through project delivery to corporate functions — to identify the highest-value problems worth solving

  • Translate business problems into clear product strategies, success metrics, and well-sequenced product bets, and revisit them as conditions change

  • Consolidate, sunset, or reinvest in products as the portfolio matures, keeping the pods focused on what matters most rather than on maintaining everything ever built

Agentic Pod Leadership & Delivery

  • Directly manage a collection of HITT’s agentic pods — small, lean, agile teams of AI-fluent engineers building alongside AI agents — including pod composition, cadence, and delivery commitments

  • Run the delivery system hands-on: shape backlogs, facilitate planning and reviews, clear blockers, and sustain a fast, healthy shipping rhythm built on small batches and rapid iteration

  • Work in the product daily — writing and refining requirements, pressure-testing prototypes, reviewing releases, and making scope and tradeoff calls in real time

  • Apply and improve the practice’s agentic development methods in partnership with the Head of Software Engineering and Principal Software Engineer, ensuring pods pair AI-enabled workflows with appropriate human-in-the-loop review

  • Balance speed with quality, security, and reliability so that everything the pods ship can be trusted in the field

Field Partnership & Adoption

  • Build deep, ongoing relationships with project teams, field leaders, and corporate partners, spending time where the work happens to understand problems firsthand

  • Own adoption as a product outcome: plan launches, enable users, gather feedback, and iterate until the software is genuinely used and valued on jobsites and in offices

  • Establish feedback loops and usage analytics that connect what the pods build to measurable operational and business results

  • Communicate roadmaps, progress, and outcomes clearly to stakeholders at every level, from field crews to the executive team

Talent & Practice Development

  • Recruit, develop, and retain product managers, product owners, and product-minded engineers who thrive in lean, AI-augmented teams

  • Coach pod members in modern product craft — discovery, experimentation, analytics, and AI-enabled ways of working — and help train HITT’s existing team members as they join the practice

  • Model a culture of experimentation, fail fast and pivot, while managing risk responsibly

  • Contribute to the standards, playbooks, and operating rituals of the agentic engineering practice as it scales

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field; advanced degree a plus

  • 10+ years of experience in software product management, product delivery, or engineering leadership, including 4+ years directly managing teams that ship production software

  • Hands-on experience leading teams that build with AI-enabled and agentic development methods, including AI coding agents and assistants and human-in-the-loop workflows

  • Proven track record delivering software products end to end — from discovery through launch, adoption, and iteration — in lean, agile teams

  • Player-coach leadership style, equally comfortable managing the team and working in the product, with sound instincts for when to do each

  • Fluency in outcome-based product management: defining success metrics, instrumenting products, and making evidence-based roadmap and tradeoff decisions

  • Excellent stakeholder management, with the range to work credibly with executives, corporate functions, and frontline field users

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make priorities and tradeoffs clear to any audience

  • Experience delivering software for field-based or operational users, or in construction, engineering, or manufacturing environments, is a plus
