Position Details
SUMMARY
The Director/Supervisor of Offsite Programs, Related Service Staff and Technical Assistance provides leadership and oversight for offsite special education classrooms serving high school and adult transition-aged students. This role includes supervision of related service staff and the provision of technical assistance to local districts, staff, and families. Responsibilities include program leadership, instructional support, compliance oversight, and collaboration with districts and community partners to support strong student outcomes.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee programming for students in five offsite special education classrooms serving high school and adult transition-aged students.
- Support transition planning, community-based instruction, vocational opportunities, and coordination with related service staff and community agencies.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, MARSE, and state/federal special education requirements, including evaluations, IEP implementation, and monitoring processes.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to local districts, families, and staff regarding special education programs, procedures, student supports, and legal requirements.
- Use student and program data to guide continuous improvement, program effectiveness, and student achievement.
- Supervise, evaluate, coach, and support related service staff, teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Coordinate professional learning and training related to instructional practices, compliance, and special education best practices.
- Collaborate with families, local districts, related service staff, and community partners regarding student needs, placement, and services.
- Assist with budgeting, staffing, transportation coordination, facilities, and resource allocation.
- Support school improvement planning, curriculum development, and implementation of evidence-based practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (If Applicable): Required
- Valid Michigan Administrator Certificate.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with at least (1) endorsement in special education.
- Approval or eligibility for temporary approval as a Director or Supervisor of Special Education by the Michigan Department of Education.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Required
- A master's degree in special education administration, supervision, or special education or enrolled in a program to earn one.
Desired
- Minimum of three years successful experience in special education leadership, center-based programming, or related administrative roles preferred.
- Experience with MoCI/MiCI programming, transition services, and working with local districts preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Deep understanding of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE), and General Supervision components.
- Experience providing technical assistance to districts, staff, and families.
- Experience leading teams, coaching staff, and managing multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of secondary transition planning and programming for students with cognitive impairments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with families, districts, staff, and community partners.
