A Director of Surgical Services opportunity is open in Las Vegas, NV at a 834-bed acute care facility — the largest in Nevada — that holds a comprehensive stroke center recognized with the Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award and is home to the state's only pediatric cardiac intensive care unit for fresh post-operative patients. The surgical program performs over 18,000 cases annually (60–80 cases per day) across 23 ORs, with service lines spanning adult and pediatric surgery, an adult heart program, a pediatric congenital heart program (the only one in Nevada), orthopedics, neurosurgery, burn, trauma, and urology. Roughly 45% of surgical volume originates from the emergency department, and the facility runs one of the most active transfer programs in the region, receiving 30 or more transfers per day from outlying facilities.

The role. The Director of Surgical Services reports to the VP of Surgical Services and COO, and leads a department of approximately 167 FTEs supported by three direct-report managers, with oversight spanning the OR, CVOR, anesthesia techs, endoscopy, sterile processing, and OR environmental services. The Director drives clinical quality by identifying and implementing evidence-based practices across all surgical service lines, managing variation in practice to improve efficiency and patient safety outcomes, and ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance across the full perioperative environment. A central responsibility is volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and throughput planning for a high-acuity, high-volume program that includes complex congenital cardiac, burn, and trauma cases. The Director collaborates with physician and administrative partners to sustain existing service lines and identify opportunities for new service development, while maintaining disciplined oversight of the department budget — including labor productivity, supply utilization, staffing, and expense variance management.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of recent acute care Director of Surgical Services experience required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in acute care Surgical Services required

Schedule. Full-time, day shift, no weekends.

Compensation. $123,448 - $185,182 per year plus $18 sign-on bonus
