Director Surgical Services

This Director of Surgical Services opportunity is based in Las Vegas, NV at an 834-bed acute care facility — the largest acute care hospital in Nevada — that houses a comprehensive stroke center (Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award recipient), the state's only fresh post-op Pediatric Cardiac ICU, and a pediatric congenital heart program that is the only one of its kind in Nevada. The surgical program operates 23 ORs, performs more than 18,000 cases annually (60–80 cases per day), and supports a broad service mix including adult and pediatric surgery, adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, burn, trauma, and urology. Approximately 45% of surgical volume originates from the emergency department, and the facility runs one of the highest-volume transfer intake programs in the region, receiving 30 or more transfers per day from outlying facilities.

The role. The Director of Surgical Services reports to the VP of Surgical Services and COO, and holds direct oversight of the OR, CVOR, anesthesia techs, endoscopy, sterile processing (SPD), and EVS-OR, supported by three managers and 167 FTEs. The Director leads clinical quality and patient safety by identifying and implementing evidence-based practices across the surgical division, managing clinical practice variation to improve efficiency and outcomes, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards. Budget accountability is core to the position — the Director owns annual revenue and expense forecasting, monitors department budget performance, drives labor management through scheduling excellence and productivity controls, and identifies supply and equipment cost-reduction opportunities. In partnership with the administrative team and physician leaders, the Director evaluates and develops service line growth opportunities, leveraging the facility's established transfer and outreach infrastructure to expand surgical volume. The Director also shapes nursing practice and unit operations by developing policies, procedures, and competency standards that ensure appropriate staffing levels and care delivery across this high-acuity, high-volume surgical environment.

What we're looking for.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
• Master's degree preferred
• Minimum 1 year of recent acute care Director of Surgical Services experience required
• Minimum 3 years of applicable experience in acute care Surgical Services required
• Active RN licensure required

Schedule. Full-time, day shift, Monday through Friday with no weekend requirement.
