Our client is a building automation industry Leader looking for high-quality talent to make a difference. Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director, Project Delivery Sustainable Infrastructure to lead the successful execution and financial performance of a large-scale project portfolio.

This leadership role will oversee project delivery teams, staffing, project execution, financial performance, customer relationships, safety, subcontractor management, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have significant experience managing complex construction, infrastructure, energy, mechanical, HVAC, retrofit, or sustainable infrastructure projects and a proven track record managing portfolios exceeding $100M.

The Director will work closely with senior leadership, sales/development teams, engineering, procurement, operations, customers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, within scope, and at targeted profitability.

Responsibilities

Project & Portfolio Leadership

Lead the delivery of a large and complex portfolio of construction, retrofit, infrastructure, and sustainable projects.

Manage project execution from development and planning through construction, closeout, and post-project review.

Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, within contractual scope, and in accordance with customer expectations.

Establish project execution strategies, schedules, staffing plans, and performance objectives.

Monitor portfolio performance and proactively identify risks, delays, cost issues, and opportunities for improvement.

Oversee multiple project delivery models and complex contractual structures.

Financial Management

Own project portfolio financial performance, including revenue, costs, gross margin, cash flow, and profitability.

Develop accurate monthly forecasts for revenue, costs, gross margin, and project completion.

Monitor project financial performance and take corrective action when projects experience financial or schedule challenges.

Participate in annual operating and financial planning.

Review project backlog and portfolio performance with senior leadership.

Identify opportunities to improve productivity, profitability, and cash flow.

Leadership & Team Development

Develop staffing and resource plans to support current and future project demand.

Hire, retain, coach, and develop project and construction professionals.

Establish clear performance expectations and conduct performance reviews and development planning.

Build a high-performing project delivery organization through mentoring, training, and continuous improvement.

Lead teams across multiple functions and locations within a matrix organization.

Identify changing market and business needs and adjust organizational resources accordingly.

Customer & External Relationships

Serve as a senior-level point of contact for key customers and stakeholders.

Build strong relationships with customers throughout the project lifecycle.

Address and resolve escalated customer issues involving scope, cost, schedule, contractual requirements, and project performance.

Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, industry partners, and the broader contracting community.

Support business development activities by providing project delivery, risk, scope, and value-engineering expertise.

Participate in industry organizations and professional networks as appropriate.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

Champion a strong safety culture across employees, subcontractors, and project teams.

Ensure projects comply with applicable company policies, contractual requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.

Promote ethical business practices and consistent project execution standards.

Monitor project quality, safety, and operational performance.

Process & Operational Improvement

Establish and improve project delivery processes, procedures, and best practices.

Provide feedback from completed projects to development and operations teams to improve future project execution.

Drive adoption and effective use of project management, scheduling, financial, and reporting systems.

Promote continuous improvement across project delivery operations.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related field.

10+ years of project and/or construction management experience or equivalent experience.

Demonstrated experience managing project or business portfolios exceeding $100M.

Strong understanding of project financial management, including revenue, gross margin, profitability, forecasting, and cash flow.

Experience managing complex construction or infrastructure projects from development through completion.

Strong knowledge of project scheduling, resource planning, risk management, and project controls.

Experience with multiple project delivery and contract models.

Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and coach project and construction teams.

Strong customer-facing, communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.

Ability to analyze financial and operational data and use it to drive business results.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management/scheduling software.

Preferred

Experience with sustainable infrastructure, energy efficiency, energy services, HVAC/mechanical systems, building retrofits, or renewable/innovative projects.

Experience with Procore, Primavera P6, or comparable project management and scheduling platforms.

PMP certification.

Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) certification.

LEED certification.

MBA or advanced business/financial education.

Experience with performance contracting or similar complex delivery models.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on project delivery leader who can balance people leadership, customer relationships, project execution, and financial performance. They should be comfortable managing a large project portfolio, leading teams through complex projects, working with senior customers and executives, and driving accountability for safety, schedule, quality, profitability, and cash flow.
