We are seeking an experienced Director of Total Rewards, Compensation, and Benefits to lead the strategy, design, implementation, and administration of compensation and benefits programs that support business goals and enhance the employee experience. This role serves as a strategic partner to the Vice President of Human Resources and provides subject matter expertise on short- and long-term compensation and benefits initiatives. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, deep technical knowledge, and a proven ability to develop competitive, compliant, and employee-centered programs.

What You'll Do

Compensation Leadership

  • Lead the design and administration of compensation programs in collaboration with cross-functional leaders and the HR team
  • Develop compensation proposals for newly hired and promoted employees
  • Provide clear, market-informed recommendations for base pay, incentive pay, merit increases, and executive compensation
  • Analyze internal data, external market trends, the competitive landscape, and candidate expectations to develop competitive compensation packages aligned with the organization's philosophy
  • Partner with the Vice President of Human Resources to support the development of a job leveling framework
  • Lead annual compensation planning activities and support the successful implementation of related programs and processes
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state legislation that may impact compensation policies and practices

Benefits Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of Benefits and Leave Administrators
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending, disability, life insurance, 401(k), wellness, and related offerings
  • Partner with benefits consultants and brokers to provide strategic recommendations on programs that attract, motivate, and retain top talent
  • Oversee and execute the annual open enrollment process
  • Manage relationships with benefits vendors, contracts, and bid negotiations
  • Oversee benefits vendor administration
  • Manage the benefits administration system and ensure data integrity
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including ERISA, FLSA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, workers' compensation, and related labor and tax requirements

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Seven or more years of progressive management experience in compensation and benefits or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated success leading compensation and benefits programs in a complex organization

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in retail or convenience store industry strongly preferred
  • Preferred candidates will bring experience managing self‑insured benefit programs, including plan design, cost management, and regulatory compliance
  • Strong knowledge of compensation practices and applicable regulations, including ERISA, FLSA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and related requirements
  • Experience managing compensation, 401(k), and benefits systems in a multi-unit non-exempt environment
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop employees
  • Working knowledge of HCMs and Workday knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
  • Strong relationship-building skills with cross-functional partners
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, communication, organization, and time management skills
