    Job Summary

    The Director - Women's Services is responsible for the strategic, operational, and clinical leadership of the women's health service lines, including labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn care, and gynecological services. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through effective management of staff, resources, compliance, and performance improvement initiatives. The Director collaborates with nursing leadership, physicians, and hospital administration to advance excellence in maternal and newborn outcomes.

    Essential Functions

    • Provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for assigned Women's Services areas, which may include labor and delivery, antepartum, postpartum, newborn, and gynecologic services.
    • Establishes and monitors departmental goals, policies, procedures, and standards consistent with evidence-based maternal, newborn, and women's health practice and organizational priorities.
    • Maintains compliance with applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, perinatal requirements, and hospital policies.
    • Monitors maternal, fetal, neonatal, quality, safety, and patient-experience indicators and leads corrective actions and performance improvement initiatives based on identified trends.
    • Ensures reliable clinical processes for obstetric triage, fetal surveillance, emergency response, escalation of care, delivery, recovery, postpartum care, and newborn transition.
    • Oversees workforce planning, recruitment, orientation, scheduling, competency validation, performance management, and professional development for assigned staff.
    • Develops and manages the departmental operating and capital budgets; monitors productivity, staffing, supplies, and resource utilization against approved targets.
    • Partners with obstetric, anesthesia, pediatric/neonatal, nursing, and ancillary leaders to coordinate safe, seamless care for patients and newborns.
    • Ensures readiness for obstetric and neonatal emergencies, including appropriate drills, equipment, medications, escalation pathways, and staff competencies.
    • Promotes respectful, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and family-centered care throughout the patient experience.
    • Responds to patient, family, physician, and staff concerns; identifies systemic issues and ensures timely, appropriate follow-up.
    • Represents Women's Services on hospital committees and contributes to strategic planning, program development, community outreach, and service-line growth initiatives.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

    • Advanced knowledge of obstetric, maternal-newborn, and women's health nursing practice across the perinatal continuum.
    • Knowledge of maternal and neonatal safety standards, fetal surveillance, emergency response, and regulatory and accreditation requirements applicable to Women's Services.
    • Skill in leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating care among obstetric, anesthesia, pediatric/neonatal, nursing, and ancillary services.
    • Ability to analyze maternal, fetal, neonatal, quality, safety, patient-experience, and utilization data and translate findings into measurable improvement.
    • Knowledge of workforce planning, staffing models, productivity management, budgeting, and resource allocation.
    • Skill in change leadership, performance management, coaching, conflict resolution, and staff engagement.
    • Effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including communication during sensitive or high-risk clinical situations.
    • Proficiency with electronic health records, fetal surveillance and clinical information systems, and standard business and reporting applications.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) from an accredited nursing program (Required) And
    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in nursing, healthcare administration or a related field (Preferred)

    Licenses/Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state of practice Upon Hire (Required) And
    • BCLS - Basic Life Support from American Heart Association or other approved provider Upon Hire or within facility-specified time frame (Required)
    • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation from American Heart Association or other approved provider Upon Hire or within facility-specified time frame (May be Required-Facility Specific)
    • RNC - Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing Upon Hire (Preferred)

    Experience

    • 5+ years progressively responsible nursing experience (Required) And
    • Prior Experience demonstrating strong clinical background in labor and delivery, postpartum, or neonatal care (Required)
