We are seeking an experienced Dirt Foreman to lead earthwork and site development operations on construction projects throughout the Baltimore area. This individual will oversee field crews and equipment operations while ensuring grading, excavation, and site preparation work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans and specifications.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise crews performing earthwork, excavation, grading, and site preparation
Coordinate and direct the daily activities of equipment operators and laborers
Read and interpret civil construction plans, grading plans, cut sheets, and site layouts
Oversee rough and fine grading operations to ensure work is completed to proper elevations and specifications
Coordinate excavation, embankment, backfill, and material movement activities
Work closely with project managers and superintendents to plan daily operations and maintain project schedules
Manage crew productivity and ensure efficient use of Client and equipment
Coordinate equipment needs, including excavators, loaders, dozers, skid steers, rollers, and off-road trucks
Monitor site conditions and identify potential issues before they impact production or schedule
Ensure proper compaction and preparation of subgrades as required
Assist with layout and coordination of work around underground utilities, stormwater systems, and other site features
Maintain daily communication regarding production, Client, equipment needs, and jobsite challenges
Enforce company and jobsite safety procedures and ensure crews are following proper excavation and equipment safety practices
Train and mentor less experienced crew members and operators
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Dirt Foreman, Grading Foreman, Earthwork Foreman, or Site Foreman
Strong hands-on background in earthwork, excavation, grading, and site development
Experience leading crews and coordinating multiple pieces of heavy equipment
Ability to read and understand civil construction and grading plans
Strong understanding of cut and fill operations, elevations, slopes, and site layout
Experience working with GPS, lasers, and other grade-control equipment is preferred
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage production while maintaining quality and safety standards
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to jobsites throughout the Baltimore area
Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience in commercial site development, heavy civil construction, mass grading, excavation, utilities, stormwater management, and roadway/site preparation are strongly preferred. Experience overseeing large earthmoving operations and coordinating operators, laborers, equipment, and material movement is highly desirable.
