Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $69,500 to $96,500/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Work Location: University & Community Housing Services - UCEN 3rd Floor

Working Days and Hours: M-F, 8-5

Department Marketing Statement:

Residential & Community Living is responsible for the overall student life program in 8 residence halls and 8 apartment complexes (10,000+ residents) with a focus on student development and leadership programs, and conduct and accountability. In addition, R&CL is responsible for resident placement through the University & Community Housing Services Office.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Reporting to the Assistant Director for University Housing Services, the UCHS Disability Accommodations Coordinator is responsible for assessing, coordinating, and implementing disability-related accommodations in campus housing and associated services, ensuring that campus residents with disabilities receive equitable access to campus housing and associated services in compliance with University, State, and Federal disability guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in Special Education, Education, Counseling or combination of an advanced degree and related experience and/or equivalent training or experience.
• Professional experience in post-secondary settings with students who have disabilities Required
• Working knowledge of support services and accommodation methods, preferably in the area of housing or other auxiliary services. Required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing a complex caseload with a high level of independence. Preferred
• Skill in analyzing problems to formulate logical and objective conclusions.
• Skill in developing recommendations which lead to major changes in policy, procedures and practices.
• Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Assembly Bill 746, the federal Fair Housing Act, and California's Fair Employment and Housing Act.
• Working knowledge of UC Guidelines and Practices, and University Policy as they pertain to students with disabilities.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other administrative personnel to accomplish desired outcome.
• Skill in working with support staff.
• Ability to organize and teach workshops and support groups to assist students with disabilities to develop personal understanding about disability-related issues.
• Skill in negotiating, mediation and conflict resolution; exchanging ideas and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs and arrive jointly at conclusions and resolutions.
• Demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedures on-campus, especially those governing student housing, transportation and access for people with disabilities.
• Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing to obtain and convey information.
• Interpersonal skills to interact sensitively with students (with various disabilities and from diverse backgrounds) and with campus colleagues, governmental officials and community representatives.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff members, subordinates and management.
• Ability to assist in general office functions when needed.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

70% Assessment & Determination of Services & Accommodations

• Conduct intake appointments to evaluate individual disability needs.
• Analyze clinical documentation to verify disabilities and follow up with diagnosing clinicians as appropriate.
• Maintain confidential records and case notes.
• Assess functional limitations and recommend reasonable accommodations for housing and associated services.
• Authorize, coordinate, and implement approved accommodations.
• Research and recommend possible alternatives when requested accommodations are not feasible.

15% Collaboration & Consultation

• Provide ongoing support to a caseload of residents and guests with disabilities in campus housing with referrals to other campus partners as appropriate.
• Serve as an expert advisor on disability-related issues to staff, leadership, and campus partners.
• Analyze data and generate reports for leadership.
• Participate in relevant task forces, committees, and workgroups.

15% Program Coordination, Policy Development & Training

• Develop and refine procedures, forms, and content for housing processes and informational materials.
• Facilitate training for HDAE staff to better support students with disabilities.
• Consult with R&CL social workers, ADA Compliance Officer, clinicians, legal counsel, and other disability service providers to ensure best practices.
• Stay informed on legal developments and trends in higher education disability accommodations.
