Are you passionate about working and supporting individuals with disabilities and creating positive, inclusive and fun experiences? If you answer yes, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince Georges County, Special Programs Division is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our Disability Services Therapeutic Recreation Team. The year-round, part-time opportunities are ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with children, youth, and young adults with disabilities in a recreational setting. Team members play a vital role in supporting participants as they engage in afterschool and therapeutic recreation programs designed to promote socialization, self-expression, independence, and fun.
Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Kids Care afterschool programs are highly structured, with a focus on leisure development and improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. With a high staff-to-participant ratio, our programs are tailored to meet the individual needs of each participant, supporting and encouraging a safe and engaging environment.

Therapeutic Recreation Kids Care Afterschool Programs

Therapeutic Recreation Aftercare Aide $16.75 - $21.75
(Various positions; Rate depends on experience)
Staff members are responsible for planning, leading, and actively participating in program activities that promote engagement, skill development, and social interaction for individuals with disabilities. Responsibilities include adapting activities to meet participant needs, facilitating participation, assisting with daily living skills as needed, and supporting the implementation of behavior support plans. Depending on the position level, duties may also include maintaining required documentation. All staff are expected to communicate effectively with participants, families, and team members, enforce program rules consistently, and comply with all agency policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Qualifications by Position Level:
Therapeutic Recreation Aftercare Teacher $22.75 - $23.85
Responsible for the supervision, safety, care, and development of school-age children in a licensed after-school program through the planning and implementation of educational, recreational, and social activities while maintaining compliance with MSDE regulations. At least 12 months of previous experience in an aftercare program as an administrator, teacher, or other supervisor. Minimum Age: 21.
Therapeutic Recreation Aftercare Site Director $25.75 - $27
The Aftercare Director serves as the program leader, ensuring high-quality services that support childrens social, emotional, and recreational development while maintaining a safe, engaging, and regulatory-compliant environment. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who is committed to excellence in youth programming and family engagement. Attend meetings, enforce program rules, work closely with parents, and MNCPPC career staff. Qualifications: At least 24 months of previous experience in an aftercare program as an administrator or a supervisor. Minimum Age: 21
Minimum Qualifications
To thrive in this position, you must be willing to actively participate in all program activities (both indoor and outdoor), assist in adapting activities, and facilitate social interaction among participants. Effectively communicating with supervisors, staff, participants, and parents/guardians is extremely important. All selected candidates must display excellent customer service skills, must maintain confidentiality regarding disability, medical, and personal information, attain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (paid training classes available), and attend various required training courses. Ongoing paid training and internal growth opportunities are available.
These positions are part-time/intermittent and do not include a benefit package; however, seasonal employees may be eligible to accrue sick leave. A complete background investigation and MSDE pre-employment physical will be completed before hiring. Additionally, because these positions are safety-sensitive, mandatory random drug testing will be required.
Ideal candidates will have experience working in recreation programs, childcare or education programs, or supporting children or teens with disabilities. Starting positions and pay rates will be based on relevant education and experience. Please provide examples of experience in your application. Please note: Hours and locations may vary and are contingent upon sufficient program registration and funding. If programs are canceled, staff will not be scheduled to work.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees
Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.
If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
