Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications

This position operates in a high-volume campus dining kitchen serving large numbers of students daily. Work may involve exposure to hot equipment, cleaning chemicals, loud equipment, and busy service periods.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume food service environment.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to follow the state of North Carolina Health sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good time management and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to assist in other kitchen support tasks when needed.
  • As an essential employee, you will be required to be present at all shifts or on call even during inclement weather.

License/Certification Required Essential Job Functions

The Dishwasher plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen in a high-volume campus dining environment. This position is responsible for washing dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment while supporting the culinary team with sanitation, organization, and general kitchen cleanliness. Dishwashers help ensure the dining operation runs smoothly for hundreds to thousands of guests served daily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate commercial dish machines to wash plates, cups, reusable to-go containers, sheet trays, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain a steady flow of clean dishes, cookware, and service ware to support continuous meal service.
  • Scrape, rinse, and sort items before loading them into the dish machine.
  • Properly store clean, dry - dishes, pots, pans and utensils in designated areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dish room, pot sink, and surrounding kitchen areas.
  • Empty trash, utilize and switch out compost containers and recycling and transport waste/compost to designated collection areas.
  • Sweep and mop floors in the dish room and kitchen areas as needed.
  • Assist with basic kitchen support tasks such as delivering clean pans, changing trash bags, or restocking supplies to their designated areas.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation standards including proper chemical use, cleaning procedures and frequent logging water temperature checks.
  • Report equipment issues or safety hazards to supervisors promptly.

Work collaboratively with cooks, student staff, and kitchen leadership to maintain efficient service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous dishwashing or food service experience.
  • Experience working in institutional or high-volume kitchens.

Work Schedule/Hours

Work schedule depends on business needs. Two days off will be given. Employees may be required to work at least three home football games and/or any other special campus event. Schedules will be adjusted as needed to provide coverage for these events.

Hiring Range $15.00-$18.00 per hour (pay based on qualifications and/or experience)

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
