Job Title: Dispatcher

Reports To: Operations Manager

FLSA Status & EEO Code: Non FLSA Exempt & Administrative Support Worker

Division/Department: GHM/Operations

Salary Grade: B23 - Hourly

Level of Work: Level I

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Production Lead or his/her designee, uses dispatch reports and prioritized schedules to anticipate work center requirements. Through close liaison with the department lead, monitors work center status to keep designated authority advised of issues impacting production. The dispatcher performs an assortment of clerical duties to ensure accuracy of information along with distribution of materials and appropriate paperwork to work centers.

Job Duties:

  • Routinely reviews dispatch report to anticipate production requirements.
  • Distributes travelers, burn/nest lists and drawings to work centers as material is requisitioned in order to complete operations on time.
  • Will monitor traveler status, observing completed operations, past due items and incorrect entries. Regularly audit travelers and close operations as required.
  • Keeps production lead advised of constraints, material delays, incorrect labor entries, or deviation from plan.
  • Expedites material delays or stock outs with appropriate departments.
  • Informs production lead and manager of operations and parts that may be required or unnecessary.
  • Facilitates the movement of parts into, within, and out of the department in accordance with proper sequence of operations. May need to distribute materials or information to work centers to ensure timely completion of operations.
  • Ensure excess materials are properly stored or returned to warehouse.
  • Using dispatch reports and schedules, discusses sequence of events and priorities with individual work centers.
  • Maintains requisite files and records, prepares regular or special reports upon request.
  • Will cross train and assist in other departments performing dispatch function.
  • Observes safe work practices and maintains material levels to limit space restrictions and maintain order.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager or his/her designate.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma or GED/BOCES required

Skills:

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Experience in planning or warehouse activities with exposure to ERP/MRP software desired.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings and component bills of materials.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Exhibits polite and professional communication via phone, e-mail and mail.
  • High attention to detail with strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal direction as a highly motivated self-starter and within a team oriented culture.
  • Ability to use an assortment of measuring tools such as a tape measure, straight edge, caliper, square, etc.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is primarily required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend. Must wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company policy.
  • Work may require use of scaffold, ladders, forklift, and/or scissor lift.
  • Work may require the use of a crane to move parts.

Work Environment:

  • A majority of duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment with temperature changes.
  • Additional duties will require outdoor operations (travelling throughout campus utilizing utility vehicles/carts) and other operational duties performed outdoors intermittently.
