The Prince George’s County Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a part-time Dispatcher (General Clerk 4A), grade A12 position, in the Office of Highway Maintenance/Dispatch Operations.
About the Position
The County is conducting a search for a senior level General Clerk IV to support the Department of Public Works and Transportation’s emergency dispatch communications program. This role serves as the primary communication link between residents, County personnel, public safety agencies, utility providers, and outside agencies during routine and after-hour operations. Employees will be responsible for operating multiple communication systems simultaneously to document and maintain operational continuity in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Work will include maintaining continuous situational awareness of field operations, tracking emergency roadway conditions, updating communication logs and ensuring effective communication between field staff, leadership and partnering agencies. This is an essential position. Incumbents may be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
About the Agency
The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area -- all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T’s workforce keeps the County’s various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.
