Ensures loads and drivers are dispatched in the most cost effective and economical manner.
Acts in a supervisory capacity to the Hittman drivers/owner operators (15-30 drivers each), including responsibility for directing their work, performance/discipline and providing hire/fire recommendations.
Plans routes and dispatches company drivers/owner operators using fleet and transportation management software.
Orders all overweight permits to reduce complications for cask shipments.
Approves company driver timesheets/expenses to ensure accurate compensation.
Analyzes driver Hours of Service to ensure proper load planning and ensure on-time delivery of loads.
Inputs accessorial pay for owner operators to ensure accurate settlement pay.
Provides all drivers with the appropriate paperwork (i.e., permits, bill of ladings, trip sheets) to reduce complications and ensure compliance.
Monitors trailer inventory and leases or terminates leases as business levels dictate.
Coordinates all trailer moves.
Coordinates the availability of tractors, trailers and drivers.
Communicates with customers to determine weights for permits.
Communicates with Customer Service to determine load levels and shift loads or outsource as needed.
Coordinates overweight/overdimensional shipments with local and state authorities in various states to reduce complications and ensure compliance.
Schedules escort services for overweight/overdimensional shipments as needed.
Communicates with accounting to ensure correct billing of overweight permits.
Maximizes load efficiencies.
Coordinates with carriers when outsourcing is required.
Reviews and approves vendor invoices.
May provide supervision to Dispatcher 1.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Skills
Must have detailed knowledge of US Geography
General knowledge of DOT permit requirements and Hours of Service
Strong communication skills required
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Basic knowledge of TMW transportation management software preferred
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to effectively communicate; speaking, reading, understanding, writing and hearing clear English; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
Certified radiation worker and forklift operator
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent experience
Certifications
None required
Required Experience
Minimum of 7 years experience in the transportation industry

Prior management experience
