Overall Job Objective

  • The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and dispatching daily paratransit trips to ensure timely service and driver efficiency. This role serves as the communication hub between drivers, customers, and management, while ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient

Essential Job Functions

  • Approach position objectives with integrity and respect.
  • Dispatch paratransit trips in accordance with schedules and driver availability.
  • Maintain continuous contact with drivers via two-way radio and/or phone for trip coordination, safety, and emergencies.
  • Troubleshoot scheduling or service issues in real time to minimize disruptions.
  • Ensure all original pick-ups and return trips are dispatched promptly.
  • Immediately notify District Manager of safety or emergency situations.
  • Coordinate with Reservationists to manage late requests, cancellations, and adjustments.
  • Monitor efficiency of trips and recommend schedule adjustments as needed.
  • Follow all company protocols and procedures while working independently.
  • Assist with administrative tasks and reporting as needed.
  • Understand and comply with Authority Employee Handbook and Standard Operating procedures
  • Assist with reservationist duties as needed.

  • Participate in projects or assignments supporting departmental goals.
  • Communicate professionally with co-workers, management, clients, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision from the director of operations or his/her designee.

Working Conditions

  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Periodically works beyond normal work hours as duties may require.
  • Occasional travel to attend meetings, seminars, training and conferences or other duties as may be necessary from time to time.      

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry objects with maximum weight of twenty-five pounds.
  • Must be able to complete work requiring concentrated mental effort and attention to detail (including mathematical calculations, use of common and specialized word- and data- processing software programs) with minimal re-work or errors.
  • Ability to apply understanding and problem-solving skills to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems in a constantly changing environment.

Qualifications

  • This is a safety-sensitive role subject to DOT drug testing requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products required.
  • Prior dispatching or transit industry experience preferred.
  • Must not appear on federal or state preclusion lists.

CLEARANCES

  • Must not appear on Preclusion Lists as defined by “Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance Bulletin 99-11-05 Provider Screening of Employees and Contractors for Exclusion from Participating in Federal Healthcare Programs.”
  • Child Abuse Clearance
  • FBI Fingerprinted if necessary

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.
  • Proficient with computers, scheduling systems, and MS Office.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in data entry and use of computer systems.
  • Attention to detail
