Transportation Clerk Job Description

Position Title: Transportation Clerk

Job Summary:
The Transportation Clerk is responsible for coordinating transportation activities, scheduling shipments, tracking deliveries, maintaining shipping records, and communicating with drivers, carriers, customers, and warehouse personnel. This position ensures timely and accurate movement of freight while supporting daily logistics operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Schedule and coordinate inbound and outbound shipments.
• Communicate with drivers, carriers, and customers regarding shipment status.
• Prepare and process bills of lading (BOLs), shipping documents, and delivery paperwork.
• Track shipments and update transportation management systems (TMS).
• Verify shipping and receiving documentation for accuracy.
• Monitor delivery schedules and resolve transportation issues or delays.
• Maintain transportation records and filing systems.
• Assist with route planning and load scheduling.
• Enter shipment data into company databases and spreadsheets.
• Support warehouse and logistics teams to ensure on-time deliveries.
• Follow company safety policies and transportation regulations.
• Perform other administrative and clerical duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in transportation, logistics, dispatching, shipping, or warehouse operations preferred.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
• Experience with transportation management systems (TMS), WMS, or ERP systems is a plus.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work in an office and warehouse environment as needed.
