Job Title: Distribution Designer Job Description The Distribution Designer provides detailed design for overhead and underground electric distribution systems ranging from 4kV through 69kV. This role develops and reviews construction-ready design packages, performs distribution system design calculations, and supports project delivery by monitoring schedules, identifying risks, and proposing improvements to design and construction methods. The position collaborates closely with engineering teams and field personnel to ensure designs meet technical standards, safety requirements, and project objectives. Responsibilities + Design overhead and underground electric distribution facilities for voltages from 4kV through 69kV. + Prepare complete design packages, including design sketches, drawings, cost estimates, bills of material, and other required construction documents. + Apply established standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, procedures, and industry standards in the design of distribution facilities. + Perform distribution system design calculations to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance with applicable requirements. + Prepare and oversee the preparation of design documents for construction, including plan and profile drawings, structure loading calculations, detailed design drawings, trench and conduit layouts, and equipment specifications. + Conduct quality reviews of design work to ensure accuracy, constructability, and adherence to standards. + Monitor and maintain project schedules, tracking progress and ensuring design deliverables meet required timelines. + Report changes or issues that affect project schedule and budget, and help develop mitigation strategies. + Identify risks that may impact project schedule, cost, or quality, and propose solutions to reduce or eliminate those risks. + Present opportunities to improve the design and construction of distribution projects, focusing on efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. + Communicate with clients and engineers to clarify system requirements and design criteria. + Identify and coordinate Right of Way needs for proposed equipment and facilities. + Acquire necessary field data to support accurate design, and work with field surveying teams to develop appropriate design inputs. + Collaborate effectively with team members in both remote and in-office settings to complete design tasks and project deliverables. Essential Skills + At least five years of design experience using MicroStation or AutoCAD. + Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) tools, including AutoCAD. + Strong drafting and design skills, with experience in design/drafting for utility or infrastructure projects. + Ability to perform distribution system design calculations for overhead and underground facilities. + Knowledge of standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, procedures, and industry standards related to electric distribution design. + Ability to prepare detailed design drawings, cost estimates, bills of material, and construction documentation. + Strong attention to detail and quality in design work, including the ability to conduct thorough design reviews. + Effective communication skills to coordinate with engineers, clients, and field personnel. + Ability to monitor schedules, recognize changes that affect timelines and budgets, and report them clearly. + Capability to work both independently and as part of a team in a remote or hybrid environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer-aided design (CAD), or in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Experience preparing plan and profile drawings, structure loading calculations, trench and conduit drawings, and equipment specifications. + Experience acquiring and interpreting field data and collaborating with field surveying teams. + Familiarity with electric distribution design from 4kV through 69kV. + Ability to identify project risks and propose improvements to design and construction approaches. + Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deliverables within project schedules. Work Environment This role operates primarily in a remote work environment, with occasional visits to the office as needed for meetings in Bellevue, Washington, collaboration, or project requirements. The position involves extensive use of CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD, along with other standard office and engineering tools. The work structure supports both independent work and close collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. The schedule offers flexibility, allowing for a balance between project deadlines and personal work preferences, while still meeting all project and client requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Bellevue, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
