Job Title: Distribution EngineerRequisition: DIS00Y1Department: Distribution Engineering - F&M Service CenterLocation: Kansas City, MOPay Range: Engineer I: $68,500 - $85,600 - $102,700Engineer II: $83,600 - $104,500 - $125,400Staff Engineer: $93,400 - $116,800 - $140,200Sr Engineer: $94,600 - $126,100 - $157,600Lead Engineer: $111,400 - $148,500 - $185,600Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Under general supervision of the Manager, Distribution Engineering, the Distribution Engineer will provide day to day and future planning support for Evergy's distribution system.Develop studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, and budgets, ensuring future reliability of the grid.Provide consultation and recommendations to various Company business units and/or customers based on studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles, or facilities.Collect and compile financial data for budgeting and actual costs of projects.Provide day‑to‑day support of the distribution system by developing switching instructions for transferring load between substations and circuits, performing voltage studies, protective device coordination studies, motor start studies, power factor correction, circuit lockout investigations, storm damage assessment, power quality investigations, and other duties.Perform well‑defined engineering assignments exercising independent discretion.Perform complex engineering assignments involving analysis of power flows and electrical tests, interpreting non‑specific and ambiguous results.Provide technical consultation, plan developments and recommendations for customer and company systems and processes, verifying studies, blueprints, or designs against accepted engineering principles.Evaluate, develop, and implement projects with moderate financial and operational impact.Communicate effectively with internal and external customers across a wide range of technical knowledge.Education and Experience Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university (ABET). Prefer an Electrical Engineer with power system knowledge.Fundamentals of Engineering (Engineer in Training) with advanced technical degree or MBA from an accredited university preferred.Ability to exercise considerable, independent engineering judgment in electrical engineering work.Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:Provide technical assistance in support of others.Apply technical knowledge to promote a safe work environment and enhance customer satisfaction.Apply engineering principles to find solutions to problems.Demonstrate creative and resourceful thinking in devising practical solutions to problems encountered.Analyze and interpret complex engineering systems.Licenses, Certificates, Bonding and/or Testing: Must have a valid driver's license. Professional Engineering License preferred, but not required.Working Conditions: Normal working office environment with field visits to support coordination activities. Must be able to work additional hours on short notice. Minimal travel may be required.
