Job Title: Distribution Field Technician

Job Description

The Distribution Field Technician collects and documents field inventory data for joint use attachments, using QGIS and other field data capture tools to support power distribution projects. This role involves extensive travel throughout Georgia and surrounding regions, close coordination with the design team, and opportunities for long-term career growth into office-based design and engineering support roles.

Responsibilities

  • Collect inventory data in the field for joint use attachments on power distribution infrastructure.
  • Capture high-quality images and field data that meet established design and data requirements.
  • Use QGIS and other field data collection software to accurately document assets and conditions.
  • Coordinate closely with the design team to ensure all images and data are complete, accurate, and usable for design work.
  • Travel throughout Georgia and surrounding states, including Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle, to complete field assignments.
  • Work independently in the field, traveling and collecting data four days per week.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with project teams regarding project status, issues, and progress.
  • Ensure all collected data is properly organized, documented, and submitted according to project standards and timelines.
  • Assist in storm work and emergency response efforts as needed, supporting power distribution restoration activities.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and field protocols while working around power distribution infrastructure.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working as a distribution field technician or in a closely related power distribution field role (0+ years).
  • Proficiency in using software tools to capture and record data in the field.
  • Ability to perform inventory collection in the field and travel independently four days per week.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with design teams and project stakeholders.
  • Comfort working around power distribution infrastructure and familiarity with basic field practices.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Georgia on a weekly basis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in data collection for utility or power distribution projects.
  • Experience with QGIS software or similar geographic information system tools.
  • Knowledge of joint use practices and staking in power distribution.
  • Familiarity with power poles and related distribution equipment.
  • Openness to traveling throughout Georgia and neighboring states, including Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle.
  • Interest in long-term career growth, with the potential to transition into office-based roles after one to two years in the field.
  • Motivation to support a growing project portfolio and contribute to a team with strong advancement opportunities.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role with extensive weekly travel. You will typically work four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, in the field and stay overnight in hotels an average of three nights per week, and up to four nights depending on project needs. Assignments are primarily along the Georgia and Alabama border, with additional projects in Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle. You will travel every week and work independently at various outdoor sites around power distribution infrastructure. The organization provides per diem at the Georgia rate for food and lodging, along with mileage reimbursement for travel to and from project sites. You will also support storm work and emergency response when needed, contributing to power restoration efforts in the field.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carrollton, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
