Overview:
This position is responsible for providing technical and administrative supervision of the DEG Permitting Design group. Provides Distribution Permitting Design support in areas of technical and managerial complexity. Performs billable work for clients within area of expertise. Serves as the lead interface for the group with other company departments, outside consultants, clients, contractors, suppliers, and others on technically related matters.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the Engineering and Design efforts and provide support for Project Managers and others as appropriate. Responsible for teaming with and/or managing the efforts of teams/consultants that may be involved in CPS Energy CD&D Engineering & Design projects.
- Responsible for working with Project Management in preparing and coordinating proposals, schedules, and budget estimates for client activities. Assign and schedule work as required to meet client requirements, assuring the highest quality and most efficient use of resources.
- Responsible for managing the CPS Energy Engineering & Design Teams to meet or exceed profitability and quality performing targets.
- Take a lead role in building and training the CPS Energy Engineering & Design Teams by hiring employees, marketing services, and providing outstanding service to clients.
- Serve as a resource to the Company's business development contact person with clients and partners.
- Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients, agencies, and the general public.
- Responsible for complete and accurate record keeping of all work performed by the CPS Energy Engineering & Design Teams.
- Responsible for Quality Assurance and Quality Control on all work performed by the CPS Energy Engineering & Design Teams.
- Must have excellent PC skills with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and a working knowledge of CAD based programs.
- A strong knowledge and experience of CPS Energy Engineering & Construction Standards, electric utility distribution design and work management software is preferred.
- Serve on industry committees and association groups as appropriate.
- Must be able to travel as necessary to support work.
- Administer company policies, salary administration, training, safety (both company and client), employee development, and performance evaluations for the employees of the Distribution Design group.
- Approve times sheets and expenses for direct reports.
- Achieve weekly billable goal as defined by the project guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager/Director as need
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of leadership/senior/lead design or engineering experience
- Must have 3+ years’ experience as a Design Manager/Coordinator, Distribution Engineer, Designer, Coordinator, or Analyst and familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), the CPS Energy Design & Construction Standards, and CD&D Design Standards
- 3-6 years of project management experience with CPS Energy CD&D (Customer Design & Delivery) is highly desired; 1-/3-Phase Overhead Electric, URD, 3-Phase Underground Electric, and Gas Distribution Designs. Utilization of CPS Energy applications, GIS, Microstation, SAP, and ARM for Small Commercial, Large Commercial, Multi-Family, Subdivision Development within the CPS Energy CD&D business units.
- MicroStation and/or AutoCAD experience is a plus.
- TRC Management may consider other education and work experience to be acceptable for appointment to this position.

- Demonstrates supervisory and leadership skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to effectively market Distribution Design services outside the company.
- Expected to provide excellent client service, be innovative, and maintain a high level of integrity. Demonstrates strong understanding of electric distribution construction standards and practices and able to navigate and understand utility maps and design plans.
- Proficient use and knowledge of computers and software applications desired (MS Office products).
- Must be self-driven and able to multi-task.

- CPS Energy Overhead or Underground Electric Engineering Lead/Management Experience (highly desired)
- CPS Energy Distribution Planning Experience (highly desired)
- Jurisdictional Permitting experience
- Associate Degree in Engineering (Power Delivery preferred) with 5+ years senior/lead design experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering desired, P.E. a plus.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
