Position SummaryThe Distribution Technician is responsible for the receipt, storage, replenishment, and distribution of medical supplies, equipment, and other materials throughout the hospital. This role supports patient care operations by ensuring that clinical and non-clinical departments receive the right supplies at the right time while maintaining inventory accuracy, regulatory compliance, and excellent customer service.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInventory and Supply ManagementReceive, inspect, and stock medical and non-medical supplies in designated inventory locations.Replenish supply inventories on nursing units, procedural areas, emergency departments, operating rooms, and ancillary departments.Maintain established PAR levels and ensure adequate supply availability.Rotate inventory using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices and monitor expiration dates.Perform daily cycle counts and assist with physical inventory activities.Identify and report inventory discrepancies, damaged goods, and stock shortages.Distribution OperationsPick, stage, and deliver supplies, equipment, and special orders throughout the hospital.Process routine, urgent, and stat supply requests promptly and accurately.Utilize handheld scanners and inventory management systems to document transactions.Transport supplies safely using carts, pallet jacks, or other authorized equipment.Support receiving, distribution, and central supply operations as assigned.Customer ServiceProvide responsive service to nursing, clinical, and departmental staff.Address supply-related concerns and escalate issues when necessary.Maintain professional communication with internal customers and vendors.Compliance and QualityFollow hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and safety regulations.Maintain clean, organized, and secure storage locations.Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency.Equipment ManagementAssist with distribution and tracking of mobile medical equipment.Report equipment malfunctions, shortages, or maintenance needs.Maintain accurate equipment location and utilization records when applicable.QualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma or GED required.ExperienceOne (1) year of experience in healthcare supply chain, hospital distribution, warehouse operations, materials management, or logistics preferred.Experience with inventory management systems and barcode technology preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of inventory control and hospital supply distribution practices.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively with healthcare teams.Customer-focused approach to supporting patient care operations.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull.Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Ability to transport carts and materials throughout the hospital campus.Working ConditionsHospital environment with frequent interaction in patient care and support areas.Exposure to varying temperatures within storage and receiving locations.May require weekends, holidays, evening shifts, or emergency staffing coverage.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Inventory accuracy.On-time delivery of supplies.PAR level compliance.Customer service satisfaction.Reduction of stock-outs and expired inventory.Compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.Mission Impact:The Distribution Technician plays a critical role in ensuring caregivers have uninterrupted access to the supplies and equipment needed to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.
