    The District Attorney's Office is dedicated to cultivating emerging talent and offering meaningful opportunities for students and recent graduates to make a significant impact in their community. Our internship program provides practical, firsthand experience in criminal prosecution, enabling participants to develop their skills, enhance their knowledge, and engage in work that supports victims, public safety, and justice.

    The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office is accepting applications for rising 2nd year law students seeking credit for experience in the field of criminal justice. Interns can expect to assist with legal research, writing, and case preparation, while gaining exposure to various types of prosecution in a real-world setting. This opportunity aims to provide practical skills, networking opportunities, and career clarity.

    We revamped our Internship Program in 2026!

    Our program now includes local excursions to visit and experience locations connected to the Criminal Justice System and the 17th Judicial District Attorneys Office. Interns also participate in weekly conversations with key industry professionals, including attorneys, investigators, and victim services staff, as well as hands-on projects. Throughout the internship, our Intern Committee provides guidance to ensure a structured and uniquely engaging experience.

    The Intern program will run June 1, 2027 - August 6, 2027, and require at least 3 days onsite - Wednesdays are mandatory

    Examples of Duties for Success

    A Law Student Intern may perform/assist with the following:

    • Conduct legal research and analysis on criminal law issues, statutes, case law, and procedural rules.
    • Assist with legal writing, including drafting memoranda, motions, briefs, and summaries for attorney review.
    • Support case preparation by organizing files, reviewing discovery, summarizing evidence, and assisting with trial preparation as appropriate.
    • Observe court proceedings, including hearings, motions practice, and trials, to gain practical insight into courtroom advocacy and procedure.
    • Engage with members of the prosecution team, including attorneys, investigators, victim advocates, paralegals, and support staff, to understand the collaborative nature of case management.
    • Complete additional projects and assignments as directed to support office priorities.

    Qualifications for Success

    • Applicants for this posting should have completed one year of law school from an accredited institution.

    • Successful interns are proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to learn while upholding professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards.

    • Office attire is business casual, or business professional when attending court proceedings.
