Job Summary:
Supervise second shift custodial staff. Develop plans and strategies to maintain the cleanliness of buildings and facilities; supervise custodial staff; delegate responsibilities; set goals and objectives; and address issues and concerns as they arise. Participate in conducting routine maintenance inspections, recruiting staff, training staff, and managing inventory of cleaning supplies. Ensure safety standards and policies are followed. Communicate with day-shift facilities and custodial teams. Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of a school building; operation and care of the heating and ventilation system; care and maintenance of the grounds adjacent to the building; and performing other custodial and facilities duties as required.
Responsibilities:
Annual Work: Clean walls, glass; strip floors and reseal; strip stairways, handrails, etc.; move furniture out of rooms; wash down furniture; clean boilers; paint.
As Needed Work: Shoveling 30 paths to all doors during snowstorms; general repairs and painting; changing light bulbs; replacing water in coolers; sanding and salting during winter; cutting grass and maintaining grounds; removing graffiti; replenishing supplies.
Daily Work: Sweeping stairways; sweeping entrance; spot mopping classrooms; cleaning toilets; sweeping bathrooms and service grounds; removing trash; sweeping lunchrooms; opening and/or closing building.
Weekly Work: Mopping stairways (or as needed); mopping all floors (or as needed); cleaning out barrels.
Physical Requirements:
Standing: 45% of an 8-hour day
Walking: 45% of an 8-hour day
Sitting: 10% of an 8-hour day
Lifting (Majority of lifting is less than 20 lbs):
Mop buckets: up to 55 lbs
Supplies: up to 80 lbs.
Trash: up to 75 lbs.
Pushing/Pulling: Vacuum Cleaner
Snow Blower
Stripper
Broom/Mop
Climbing: Infrequently to change light bulbs and/or to clean the boiler, etc.
Squatting/Bending/Twisting/Stooping/Reaching
Qualifications - Required:
1+ year of experience in custodial services, two of which must have been supervisory, including knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment, and supplies.
Supervisory and management skills, such as planning and organizing;
Strong oral and written communication skills;
Ability to train new employees
Ability to sweep, mop, and vacuum.
Ability to remove trash.
Ability to operate hand and power machinery, snow shovel, snow blower, stripper, and buffer, etc.
Ability to do general cleaning of bathrooms, kitchens, lunchrooms, and classrooms
Ability to work effectively with the Principal and the Senior Custodian.
Knowledge of the proper use of supplies: synthetic detergents, soaps, scouring powders, waxes, etc.
Ability to operate various kinds of hand fire extinguishers.
Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
