Employment Type:

Base Hourly:

$19.89

Class/Calendar:

B21, 12 months

Benefits:

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New Hire Experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

New Hire Education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Job Summary:

To ensure that students, district personnel and premises are safe and secure; to maintain order; to enforce district and school policies; to respond to all incoming security calls according to established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrol district premises (via vehicle, foot or bicycle) to ensure safety and security standards are met
  • Evaluate emergency situations to determine appropriate response to ensure safety of students, staff and property
  • Assist schools in high crisis situations; provide or recommend appropriate emergency responses
  • Assist law enforcement personnel and other public agencies in carrying out their functions as they may relate to school environment
  • Interact with students and parents to assist administrators in the enforcement of all school district regulations and state laws including attendance statutes
  • Enforce Arizona state law as it relates to student attendance
  • Prepare documentation to convey information and/or written support
  • Maintain vigilance and assist in crime prevention on campuses and sites
  • Testify in court as needed
  • Assist in student control in surrounding neighborhoods as appropriate
  • Assist with extracurricular events as needed
  • Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Valid AZ driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree
  • Knowledge of Arizona laws pertaining to schools and youth
  • Experience working with youth and public
  • Experience in law enforcement or school security

  • Successful completion of security training program prior to the end of probationary period

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Much of the planning, coordination, and reporting takes place in an office setting
  • Involves working with security systems, reviewing surveillance footage, and writing reports or incident documentation
  • Frequent travel within the district to assess security measures, respond to incidents, and conduct inspections or training
  • Regular interaction with local law enforcement, administrative staff, security teams, and emergency responders
  • Must be able to walk, stand, or patrol large facilities or campuses
  • Occasionally may need to lift equipment (e.g., surveillance devices, security hardware) up to 25-50 lbs
