Description

Current Vacancy for Immediate Hire:

1 - District Translator position for 8 hours/day, 12 months

This eligibility list will be valid for one year and will be used to fill any future vacancies during the time this list is active.

About this position

This is not a general translation position.

The District Translator provides professional-level written translation and consecutive and simultaneous interpretation for highly technical educational, legal, medical, and special education communications. Successful candidates must be able to accurately interpret complex discussions in real time and translate documents where precision is critical.

Highlighted Responsibilities

The ideal candidate has experience with work such as:

  • Providing simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, as well as sight translation of documents during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, conferences, hearings, interviews, and other District meetings.

  • Translating highly technical and confidential documents, including:

  • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

  • Legal and legislative documents

  • Formal complaints

  • Board policies

  • Police reports

  • Instructional materials

  • Official District communications

  • Interpreting specialized terminology used by:

  • School psychologists

  • Speech-language pathologists

  • School nurses

  • Attorneys

  • Educational administrators

  • Assisting with bilingual student assessments and ensuring accurate communication during psychological and educational testing.

  • Reviewing and proofreading translations prepared by others to ensure accuracy before public distribution.

District Translator

Employment Standards

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalency. Additional training or college coursework in interpretation and translation or the designated second language is desirable.

Experience: One of the following:

Two years of full-time work experience composing, editing, and translating materials in English and the designated second language and providing consecutive or simultaneous oral interpretations during group meetings and in one-to-one situations.

OR

Three years of experience in a position for which bilingualism in the designated second language is a requirement.

A Bachelors degree or a Translation and Interpretation certificate in the designated second language may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Special: Possession of a valid California Drivers License.

Ability to be insured, and continue to be insurable, by the Districts liability insurance carrier.

All licenses, certificates, and other requirements listed above are required at the time of employment and must be maintained during the course of employment unless otherwise noted.

Supplemental Information

This is a Dual Certification recruitment: Candidates who attain a passing score on each examination part will be placed in rank order on an eligibility list after promotional credits are added to the composite test scores of promotional candidates. These examinations are open to permanent employees and the public.
