    Clermont County Juvenile Probation

    Status:

    Full-Time Permanent (40 hours per week)

    Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm (hours may vary)

    Non-exempt, Unclassified

    Pay: Negotiable depending on qualifications/experience

    Probationary Period: Clermont County Juvenile Court uses a 180 day training time frame for new employees. This time frame supports our adherence to the at-will nature of your employment with Clermont County Juvenile Court.

    Job Responsibilities: Supervise youth on Diversion; monitor and redirect youth from involvement in the formal juvenile court system. To hold youth accountable for their behavior without resorting to legal sanctions, court oversight, or the threat of confinement. To ensure compliance with Diversion agreements; meet with parents/children who are in crisis to assist them in addressing their particular problem areas; conduct drug testing when warranted; maintain contact with the youth's school to ensure compliance with problem conditions; refer youth to various service agencies such as drug/alcohol and mental health counseling providers, schools, Children's Services, Job and Family Services and law enforcement agencies with matters involving juveniles; conduct groups with youth in diversion ; prepare social histories and other required documentation through Diversion as required per policy; maintain current case file information meet with supervisor monthly to review cases; provide transportation of youth/parents; any other duties as required by the Court or Diversion Supervisor.

    Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skill, knowledge and abilities indicated in Job Responsibilities. B.S. or B.A. degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology or Social Services preferred. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients; ability to communicate both verbally and through written reports clearly and effectively; ability to work with the juveniles and families of all social/ethnic backgrounds; ability to react rationally and effectively to crisis situations; ability and willingness to follow instructions and directions of supervisors; must be able to organize and maintain accurate and complete written records documenting youths performance; must have the ability to deal maturely and professionally with the public; must have the ability to become proficient with the Court's computer system; must be willing to attend necessary training as assigned by the supervisor; must be able to properly use all department equipment, including radios, cell phones and motor vehicles. Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment date.

    Unusual Working Conditions: May be exposed to unhealthy environments and/or youth/family members with contagious diseases; may come into contact with individuals who are violent or prone to violence. The diversion officer shall be a full-time employee working forty (40) hours per week; the work hours shall be as determined by the Court or Diversion Supervisor. Attendance at evening educational groups for youth will be required. Evening checks on youth may be required as determined by the supervisor within the forty hour work week schedule.

    Dress Code: All employees are expected to dress in an acceptable, professional manner, any employee who has a tattoo must make sure that the tattoo(s) is/are covered up and not visible during work hours. Any visible body piercings, except for professional appearing ear piercing, shall not be filled with adornments during paid work hours in accordance with Clermont County Juvenile Court Personnel Policy and Procedures.
