NOTE:

Contingent upon performance, this position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule and can be structured as either four 10‑hour days or five 8‑hour days.

• The full salary for the Diversion Therapist I position is $60,009.04 to $90,014.08 annually.
• The full hiring range for the Diversion Therapist II is $66,010.10 to $99,015.02 annually.
• Additional Diversion Therapist II Requirements:
• Masters degree required in counseling, couples and family's therapy, social work or closely related human services field
• Mental Health Licensure
• 2+ years of progressively responsible counseling duties involving direct service provision with adults, juveniles, and families.

This position may be eligible for career progression, and we may hire this position at either the Diversion Therapist I or II level.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Diversion Therapist provides a variety of professional counseling and case management services including assessment, individual, family, and group therapy to juvenile and adult offenders and their families, and experiential therapies specific to juveniles, in the 18th Judicial District through the District Attorney's Office.

DUTIES:

• Performs mental health intake and evaluation of clients. Provides direct therapy services such as: individual, family, couples, group and experiential counseling, restorative justice and case management.
• Completes the following with or on behalf of the client and family; standardized pre- and post-treatment tests, surveys, grant data forms, diversion contracts, disclosure statements, consents(s) for release of information and all additional required paperwork. Determines treatment plan, frequency and modality of counseling services and/or supervision needed.
• Educates client and family regarding the justice system and consequences of further law involvement.
• Completes case notes to document sessions and treatment.
• Assists in tracking and collection of restitution. Collects and reports various case-related statistics.
• Works closely with prosecution and intake departments to ensure appropriate level of supervision for each client.
• Participates in on-going individual and/or group supervision with director, peers and/or clinical consultant(s).
• Formulates case conceptualization and case presentations to supervisor, co-workers and outside agencies.
• Responds to clients in crisis and makes referrals as needed.
• Attends mandatory monthly staff meetings and bi-annual retreats, various conferences and professional training seminars. May serve on one or more community service/agency committees.
• Presents material about program services and/or relevant mental-health topics to schools and community service agencies.

REQUIREMENTS:

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

• Considerable knowledge of: counseling theories, techniques and treatment modalities, assessment and crisis management. Experience creating and implementing treatment plans.
• Ability to coordinate with community agencies/resources, facilitate meetings with outside providers on behalf of the client, understand and explain clinical issues and program components to clients, families and outside agencies, analyze problems, make recommendations for effect solutions, establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work as a member of a high-functioning, self-directed team.

Education and Experience:

• Masters degree required in counseling, couples and family's therapy, social work or closely related human services field.
• 2+ years of progressively responsible counseling duties involving direct service provision with adults, juveniles, and families.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bi-lingual (Spanish-English) preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The majority of work is provided in a standard office environment. Opportunities to provide community service, day and overnight experiential therapy, restorative justice and various other modalities are incorporated.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Spends 90% of the time sitting and 10% of the time either standing or walking.
• Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs.
• Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 20 lbs.
• Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
• Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions.
• Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment.
