About the Agency
The Virginia Department of Fire Programs serves the citizens of the Commonwealth by enhancing public safety through supplemental funding to local governments, providing education and training to first responders, and delivering fire prevention and life safety education through community risk reduction and statewide fire code enforcement.
About the Position
The VDFP Division Chief will plan, provide oversight, implement, and manage all aspects of fire services training within their division office and oversee division office operations and programmatic delivery. The Division Chief will also provide statewide support and subject matter expertise in at least one specialized discipline including but not limited to Hazardous Materials, Heavy Technical Rescue, and/or Incident Management. This position is responsible for directing all programmatic development and delivery to include: budget (up to $280,000), personnel and operational activities within programs as related to both VDFP delivered/supported training and emergency response (field and EOC). The Division Chief will work in close coordination with other VDFP staff members to maintain agency accreditation/certification. This position is responsible for providing overall supervision of personnel, to include but not limited to the VDFP staff and VDFP assets (training trailers & props). In this position, the Chief will serve as a subject matter expert and Agency point of contact responsible for establishing and maintaining effective partnerships and serve as a liaison to the local jurisdictions and to regional, state, federal, and non-government organizations within the state and providing direct access to the full array of services and assistance offered by VDFP.
This position has a Virginia Emergency Support Team (VEST) assignment and is designated as essential personnel and serves as the first-level of response during an incident within the EOC and support recovery operations. This position is required to ensure 24/7/365 situational awareness throughout the state for potential and/or actual threats, incidents, or disasters both natural and manmade. The incumbent of this position will serve as an Agency technical spokesperson if needed, and as the Agency Duty Chief as scheduled. Work in this position may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may also include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description.

Licensure/Certification: Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or the ability to complete the course within the first month of hire is desired.
Criminal History: Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check; must possess the ability to successfully qualify for U.S. Government Security Clearance.
Other: Must be eligible to work in the United States and at least 18 years of age. A one-year probationary period is required of all newly hired or re-hired employees.
