Position Overview: 
The Arc is seeking a full-time Division Director of Transportation.  Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), this position is responsible for overseeing the Transportation department and focuses on managing one or more dedicated contract transportation accounts to meet customer service expectations and achieve both operational and key performance goals. Develop new business opportunities. Monitors key performance metrics and analyzes operational variables and implements solutions that positively impact account performance. You will play a critical role in the growth of the department by expanding existing services and creating new business opportunities.

Success in the First 90 Days Looks Like:
  1. Increase Wheels to Wellness trips to 50 per week and fully expand COG grant amounts.
  2. Evaluate the suitability of the current customer routing system and accounting platform.
  3. Visit and build relationships with referral partners including hospitals, medical centers, etc.

The Role in a Nutshell:
  • Provide oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Transportation department.  
  • Identify new business opportunities by researching industries.  Tracks down potential clients through networking or outreach and leads contract talks and closes agreements that increase revenue.
  • Lead efforts for continuous service level improvements, engaging all involved parties (internal and external).
  • Work cross-functionally to minimize service disruptions.
  • Stay on top of industry/market conditions and trends and leverage industry resources and knowledge to provide insight, identify best practices and new technology to get results
  • Manage the operation with integrity to achieve key performance goals. Monitor, analyze and improve all primary variables impacting operating revenue and costs. Act with a sense of urgency to achieve exceptional performance.
  • Build a strong partnership with customers through regular professional communication, problem-solving, and relationship building. Continually assess service performance levels and take timely action to remove performance barriers.
  • Promote and monitor employee safety and take proactive steps to create a positive safety culture. Partner with customer, internal and external resources as necessary to identify, evaluate and remove safety obstacles. Ensure compliance with safety programs and protocols as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Embrace, promote, and lead continuous improvement efforts.

Standout Competencies You Must Have:
  • New Business Development: Experience in identifying new business opportunities by researching industries.  Tracks down potential clients through networking or outreach and leads contract talks and closes agreements that increase revenue.
  • Strategic Leadership: Experience setting departmental strategic direction and providing oversight of cross-system strategic planning, data analysis, and evaluation efforts.
  • Fiscal Management: Demonstrated knowledge of planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and coordinating budgets and financial activities for a department.
  • Quality Service Delivery: Experience providing direction and guidance for the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans, programs, activities, and operational policies and procedures needed for an effective delivery system of community living services.
  • Workforce Management: Experience overseeing departmental workforce development efforts.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, Business or equivalent work experience. 7-10 years of transportation leadership experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
  • Experience: 7-10 years' experience in transportation and 7 years’ supervisory experience is required.
  • Proven leadership with the ability to influence and turn ideas into actions
  • Strong carrier, customer or supplier management experience (including negotiation tactics and performance management)
  • Communication skills: Clear speaking and writing for pitches and presentations.
  • Negotiation skills: Ability to reach agreements that benefit both the client and the company.
  • Analytical thinking: Skill in reading market data and tracking sales pipelines.
  • Experience with the development of forecasts/budgets and managing operations against a forecast/budget.
  • Ability to monitor and report on performance on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  • Demonstrated experience leading, directing, communicating change, and developing a team is strongly desired.
  • Candidates should have strong knowledge of dispatch operations, transportation management, and logistics solutions with broad knowledge in DOT rules and regulations.
  • Experience conducting business using multiple software systems and processes.
  • Strong skill base and comfort with technology including Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and routing or dispatching systems.
