We are seeking a forward-thinking Division Survey Engineer to direct and coordinate all survey operations within Division 9, ensuring alignment across teams while leading a staff of engineers and technicians and serving as the primary liaison for Construction, Utilities, District Operations, Maintenance, and Project Development. Position will coordinate internal and external survey efforts; oversee consultant and contract survey activities; and implement consistent procedures for control checks, drainage and structure layouts, and 3D model based layout and verification. The Division Survey Engineer will oversee the Division's drone program and ensure aerial data is seamlessly incorporated into survey workflows. As NCDOT advances Digital Delivery and migrates to OpenRoads Designer (ORD), you will champion best practice survey standards and technologies to enable model centric design and construction throughout the Division.
Your role includes operational leadership (people, resources, task orders, and support contracts); consistent QA/QC of deliverables (in house and consultant); documentation and safety oversight; and robust stakeholder communication with engineers, managers, field staff, utility owners, and local partners. This role ensures rigorous consultant oversight per Department policy while leveraging task orders to deliver timely, efficient support under Limited Services Contracts.
As the Division Survey Engineer, you will:
Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor and/or Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors is preferred. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
