Summary:

The Dock Operations Coordinator I reports to the Dock Operations Supervisor and works under direct supervision. This position will moor vessels to the dock, and will load, unload, and transport materials on and off vessels and/or from dock to storage site, while maintaining the functionality of the dock.

Essential Functions: (Responsibilities, Tasks, Supervisory Needs)

  • Moves product and other materials to and from storage and production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, and containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, and other equipment
  • Connects and disconnects incoming/departing vessels to docks, and shore power
  • Connects, adjusts, and removes vessel gangways as needed.
  • Deploys, retracts, inspects, and maintains oil boom around vessels and docks as needed
  • Opens containers and inspects and sorts cargo, if applicable, before loading and unloading
  • Loads and unloads waste onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or with material handling equipment.
  • Packs materials onto flatbeds or into containersand installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit
  • Performs skiff inspections and works from skiff while performing specific open water duties
  • Places, removes, and empties waste receptacles daily to mitigate environmental concerns
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, equipment, pallets, or other containers
  • Stacks or assembles materials into bundles or on pallets and bands bundles/pallets together

This is a nonexempt position with an hourly rate range from $21.00 - $23.00

Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications: (Education, Years of Experience, Certifications)

  • Must have a valid state-issued driver's license
  • Ability to become forklift certified within 30 days of employment
  • Ability to become basic boating safety course certified within 120 days of employment

Preferred Education & Experiences:

  • Current Forklift certification
  • Current Basic boating safety course

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Basic Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety and HAZMAT rules
  • Skilled at working in a team, using radio and hand signals to coordinate crane and forklift movements, and working in occasional high-stress scenarios
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in warehouses during varying seasonal weather conditions
  • Ability to adapt to changing work schedules, on-call work periods dependent on vessel arrival, and working on holidays and weekends

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical demands:

Must be capable of boarding and departing (exiting) a vessel without assistance by moving up or climbing a gangplank and/or a vertical ladder. Must be capable of boarding/departing the vessel by being lifted in a crane or manlift. May also enter and exit a skiff from a dock or a boat unassisted.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
