Position Title: DOD STARBASE Teacher

Reports To: DOD Starbase Coordinator
Contract: 190 Days
SUMMARY: The DOD STARBASE Teacher provides engaging, hands-on STEM instruction through the Department of Defense STARBASE program for students within the school district. The teacher delivers standards-based lessons in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, robotics, aerospace, and related career fields while promoting teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. This position collaborates with district staff, military partners, and community stakeholders to create meaningful learning experiences that support student achievement and career readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality STEM instruction aligned with Department of Defense STARBASE curriculum requirements and district academic standards.
- Facilitate hands-on, project-based learning activities in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, robotics, aerospace, coding, and related fields.
- Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student participation and collaboration.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments to support student learning outcomes.
- Utilize technology, engineering design processes, and inquiry-based instruction to enhance student engagement.
- Collaborate with school district staff, military personnel, and community partners to support program implementation.
- Supervise students during classroom instruction, laboratory activities, field experiences, and special events.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, student performance, inventory, and program documentation.
- Assist with STEM showcases, family engagement events, summer camps, competitions, and outreach activities.
- Maintain and organize instructional equipment, classroom supplies, and laboratory materials.
- Follow all district policies, safety procedures, and Department of Defense STARBASE program requirements.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required training opportunities.
- Support district goals related to STEM education, workforce development, and career readiness.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising administrator.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, STEM-related field, or closely related area required.
- Valid state teaching license/certification required or ability to obtain certification as required by the district.
- Endorsement or experience in science, mathematics, technology, engineering, computer science, or related area preferred.
- Experience working with elementary or middle school students preferred.
- Knowledge of STEM instructional strategies, project-based learning, and classroom technology integration preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, classroom management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with military personnel, district staff, students, and community partners.
- Ability to manage instructional materials, laboratory equipment, and multiple program activities effectively.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout classrooms and instructional spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to supervise students during hands-on and laboratory activities.
Working Conditions
- Classroom, laboratory, and school district environments with occasional travel to partner sites and educational events.
- Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required for STEM events, camps, or family engagement programs.
