The Role and Why It’s Important
As a Dollar Fresh Stocker at Hy-Vee, you’ll be a key part of keeping our store shelves full, organized, and ready for customers across Grocery, Dairy, Frozen, Meat, HBC, Wine and Spirits, and other areas of the store. Your work behind the scenes directly shapes the shopping experience our customers love.

What You’ll Do
No two shifts are exactly the same, but here’s what you can expect:
Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly in all areas of the store and helping them find what they need
Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and passing along any feedback or requests to the team
Unload trucks, open containers, stock shelves, run overstock on risers, and rotate product to ensure freshness
Label all product containers in the backroom and storage areas with the date received
Tag shelves with overstock in the back room and understock drawers
Monitor for mis-picked items, product outs, and wrong deliveries, and report issues accordingly
Organize stock for greatest efficiency and clean and restock any damaged items
Operate the cash register to complete customer transactions accurately and efficiently as needed
Stock supplies including cigarettes, front-end sacks, and department supplies
Assist with outside maintenance including shoveling snow, spreading ice melt, and returning carts
Help with cleaning throughout the store including registers, restrooms, breakroom, and backroom
Assist store management with displays, decorations, and special promotions as needed
Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee’s dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed
You’ll receive direction and support from: District Store Director, Store Manager, and Center Store Manager
Your Skills
You don’t need prior experience for this role! We’ll happily train and support you as you grow. To be successful, you’ll need to be able to:
Follow written and verbal instructions with confidence
Use basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages
Communicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way
Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy store environment
Less than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred
Reporting Relationships
Accountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, and Center Store Manager
Education and Experience
Less than a high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted
Up to six months of similar or related work experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance
Continuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods
Where applicable to the role: ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment (required operator certification must be completed prior to independent use)
Work in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods
Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product
Where applicable to the role, and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements: operate a cardboard baler or compactor
Where applicable to the role: perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing
Ability to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise
Working Environment
This is a physically demanding, hands-on role performed throughout the store. You may encounter daily exposure to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazards, and cleaning chemicals or solvents, with occasional exposure to temperature extremes and potential electrical shock. The role involves working with and around heavy store equipment. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
