Domestic Couple – Formal Butler and Executive Housekeeper

A gracious client is seeking a highly capable Domestic Couple for their Locust Valley, NY residence.

One half of the couple should be a formally trained, professional Butler. The other half is a skilled Executive Housekeeper.

This is a year-round, live-on role for a refined private service couple who embodies discretion, grace, and reliability in every aspect of their work.

The ideal candidates enjoy formal service and demonstrate both impeccable standards and the quiet confidence to anticipate needs and support the seamless functioning of a refined household.

One month of consecutive PTO each summer with other slow periods during the year.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure general estate readiness
• Perform the daily and deep cleaning at the home
• Formal and informal table setting, serving, and clearing
• Light meal coordination when Chef is not available
• Perform household laundry, pressing, steaming, and dry cleaning drop-off/pick-up
• Wardrobe organization, shoe care, and seasonal closet transitions
• Inventory and care of fine china, crystal, silver, artwork, and antiques
• Oversee repairs and maintenance needs in conjunction with the Personal Assistant and Property Caretaker
• Run errands
• Perform nightly security checks of the residence

• Greet and announce guests, and orient overnight visitors to home amenities

• Seasonal decor setup, and organization of storage and basement areas

• Drive the principal as needed, including to NYC

Qualities

• Prior experience in a similar role in a private home or on a yacht
• Excellent verifiable references
• Formal Butler training for one candidate
• An appreciation for refined, European service standards
• Gracious, poised, and discreet
• Attuned to the needs of others with a quietly proactive approach
• Meticulously organized, flexible, and unflappable under changing schedules
• Knowledgeable in the care of fine materials and luxury household items
• Outstanding, verifiable references and a long-term mindset
• Driver’s license
• Candidates should enjoy working in a formal home with uniforms

Schedule

• When the principal is in residence, the role is generally, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, extended hours.
• When the principal is not in residence this is generally Monday to Friday daytime hours.
• The principal splits time between this residence and a NYC residence (when not in Europe)
• The principal is typically in Europe for 2-3 months each year.
• To offset some longer weeks the principal is happy to offer some shorter weeks when not in residence

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual base compensation of $200,000 - $280,000 per couple
• Benefits include an annual discretionary bonus, medical/dental/vision insurance, HRA, PTO and holidays, plus a full month off each summer
• Spacious, multi-room, private living suite
• Meals provided by the Chef when the principal is in residence and full access to a large kitchen when the principal is not in residence
• Staff vehicle available for work-related errands
