Description
The Case Enhancement Assistant will work in coordination with the Lynchburg Domestic and Sexual Violence Prosecution Team to strengthen prosecution efforts that enhance safety, justice, and support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The position performs a variety of tasks that support trauma-informed and evidence-based practices designed to improve case outcomes while minimizing victim re-traumatization.
Grant Funding Notice: This is a grant-funded, part-time position currently funded for the period of July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Continued employment beyond June 30, 2027 is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.
Schedule: Part-time position working up to 25 hours per week.
Essential Duties

ENHANCING PROSECUTION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND STALKING CASES
Review reports for Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Household (Domestic) Violence calls by:
SERVE AS LIAISON BETWEEN THE COMMONWEALTHS ATTORNEYS OFFICE AND THE LYNCHBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ENSURE CASES ARE ADEQUATELY PREPARED
Review reports by:
Identify and locate victims and witnesses by:
Gather and organize evidence by:
Monitor jail communications by:
Support case enhancement by:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Education and Experience Required
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) to three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, legal assistance, victim advocacy, or a related field. Successful completion of a criminal background investigation is required.
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive knowledge of the criminal justice system, prosecution processes, and issues affecting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The candidate should have knowledge of departmental policies, criminal procedures, and the laws governing the handling of sensitive and confidential information. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, victim advocates, and other community partners; perform duties with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and related software applications.
