Job Summary:**
The Dominion Cable Splicer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various types of telecommunications and power cables, ensuring reliable connectivity and adherence to safety standards.
Job Responsibilities:**
* Perform splicing, termination, and testing of copper and fiber optic cables, including buried, aerial, and underground installations.
* Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders to determine cable routing and splicing requirements.
* Identify, diagnose, and resolve cable faults and service interruptions using specialized testing equipment.
* Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including fusion splicers, optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs), multimeters, and bucket trucks.
* Install and maintain cable support structures, pedestals, and splice enclosures.
* Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety policies, industry standards, and relevant regulations.
* Complete detailed work reports, including as-built drawings and test results.
* Collaborate with other technicians and crews to complete projects efficiently.
* Respond to emergency call-outs and perform repairs outside of normal business hours as needed.
* Maintain a clean and organized work environment and company vehicle.
Job Qualifications:**
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in cable splicing, preferably within the telecommunications or utility sector.
* Proven experience with both copper and fiber optic cable splicing techniques and equipment.
* Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
* Strong understanding of telecommunications and/or power distribution systems.
* Proficient in the use of various testing equipment, including OTDRs, power meters, and light sources.
* Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record preferred.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various weather conditions and challenging environments.
* Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
* Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.
