Job Description

Job Summary:

Responsible for supervising and directing the work of subordinates engaged in maintaining harmonious relations and discipline among residents in group-living situations.  Schedules staff to provide quality coverage and services for residents.  Directs overall planning, management, and operation of the Youth Activities related programs. Duties will be performed within the scope of the Department of Labor and Cherokee Nation policies and procedures.

 

Job Duties:

Assists in the scheduling of subordinates' work to ensure 24-hour supervision of the facility and residents. Provides training for staff members in a variety of subjects and approaches impacting upon the supervision and guidance of the residents to improve their work performance. Schedules and conducts meetings to apprise subordinates of revised or new policies and procedures and regulations to ensure their awareness. Provides leadership to coordinate planning and operation of Youth Activities and related programs. Coordinates program activities with other Cherokee Nation activities as demand requires. Maintains necessary records and prepares required reports in an accurate and timely manner. Consults with appropriate staff on any serious behavioral or adjustment problems of residents. Performs inspections to maintain a clean, safe, clutter free, harmonious and caring environment supportive of residents. Administers property inventory and control system. Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages 2 subordinate supervisors who supervises a total of 15-35 employees in the SHS Residential. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises one non-supervisory employee. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

 

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Science or a related field from four-year college or university; no substitutions.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

An additional two (2) years of experience working with adolescents in a residential setting is required.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge and training on computers. First aid/CPR training.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

 

Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
