Under general supervision, the DOT Chemical Delivery Driver loads the truck and delivers chemicals to the customer location in a safe manner following all laws, company policies, and customer policies. This position will ensure that the truck is in good working order by completing the pre-trip inspection, maintaining up to date logs and timesheets, as well as ensuring the shipping documents and all vehicle documents are current within the delivery truck.

Transportation & Delivery

  • Safely transport totes, drums, and tankers (ISO containers) containing hazardous and non-hazardous materials from company facilities to customer locations.
  • Transfer (pump) chemical products from delivery vehicles into customer chemical makeup tanks in accordance with company procedures and customer site requirements.
  • Deliver parts, equipment, chemicals, and other materials to customer and field locations as needed.
  • Operate delivery vehicles in compliance with all applicable traffic laws, company policies, customer requirements, and safe driving practices.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report vehicle defects or maintenance needs.
  • Verify the accuracy and completeness of bills of lading, hazardous materials shipping papers, inspection reports, driver logs, and other required transportation records.
  • Ensure hazardous material shipments are properly placarded, labeled, marked, and documented in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Maintain required DOT documentation and ensure all vehicle permits, licenses, and certifications remain current.

Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance

  • Perform routine inspections and minor maintenance on assigned trucks, pumps, hoses, and related delivery equipment.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean, safe, and professional condition while ensuring preventive maintenance schedules are followed.

Loading & Material Handling

  • Operate forklifts to safely load and unload chemical products and materials.
  • Secure cargo in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures.
  • Load, unload, and handle hazardous and non-hazardous materials using proper material handling practices.

Warehouse Operations

  • Assist with warehouse operations, including receiving shipments, inventory management, chemical ordering, preventative maintenance, and organizing warehouse and laydown yard areas.
  • Maintain safe, organized, and compliant chemical storage areas.

Safety

  • Follow all Company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and customer safety requirements.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established procedures when handling chemicals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of commercial truck driving experience, preferably transporting hazardous materials
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
  • Hazardous Materials (H) and Tanker (N) endorsements required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and Hazardous Materials Regulations
  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling, storage, transportation, and transfer procedures
  • Knowledge of hydrogen sulfide (HS) hazards, detection methods, PPE requirements, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles, forklifts, pumps, hoses, and chemical transfer equipment
  • Ability to accurately complete driver logs, inspection reports, bills of lading, and other required documentation
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow written procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance

Working Conditions

Working conditions vary and include:

  • Controlled office environment as needed.
  • Equipment fabrication shops and panel shops.
  • Warehouses, customer sites, and other outdoor environments
  • Frequent travel throughout Texas, New Mexico, and other remote assigned locations
  • Exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, and industrial hazards
  • On occasions, weather conditions may include:
    • Hot, cold, and/or inclement

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods while driving.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach as required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, pumps, hoses, and other equipment.
  • Ability to perform duties in hot, cold, dusty, and other outdoor industrial environments.
