    DOT Director of Operations

     

    Location: Sulphur, LA

    Employment Type: Direct Hire

    Schedule: 40 hours per week-Flex

    (In light of the nature of the transportation industry, the Company does not maintain

    regular business hours. You are expected to work customary business hours but will vary as determined by the Company’s specific business needs. Schedules are subject to change and may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, or multiple-day shifts. Flexibility with the work schedule and the ability to work any shift assigned is required.)

    Position Overview

    We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Operations to oversee the day-to-day performance of multi-location passenger transportation and shuttle operations while championing safety, service excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.

    This position is ideal for a hands-on operational leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has experience leading teams, managing transportation operations, improving service performance, and driving measurable results.

    The Director of Operations will work closely with Safety, Maintenance, Human Resources, and senior leadership to ensure safe, reliable, compliant, and customer-focused operations.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Operational Leadership & Team Development

    • Provide strategic direction and daily operational oversight to managers, supervisors, drivers, and support personnel.
    • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, training, development, and retention of frontline leaders and team members.
    • Establish clear expectations and foster a culture of accountability, coaching, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
    • Ensure consistent execution of company policies, procedures, and operational standards across multiple locations.
    • Identify operational challenges and implement practical solutions to improve performance.

     

    Service Delivery & Customer Satisfaction

    • Oversee daily transportation and shuttle operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient service.
    • Maintain schedule adherence, appropriate staffing levels, fleet readiness, and operational continuity.
    • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance service reliability and the customer experience.
    • Monitor service KPIs, operational trends, and customer feedback to drive data-informed decisions.
    • Address service disruptions and operational issues quickly and effectively.

     

    Cross-Functional Coordination

    • Partner closely with Operations, Safety, Maintenance, Human Resources, and other departments to ensure organizational alignment.
    • Coordinate operational requirements with fleet maintenance and safety teams to maximize vehicle availability and reliability.
    • Lead operational efforts associated with onboarding new contracts, customers, locations, and service lines.
    • Scale operations while maintaining established safety, service, and performance standards.
    • Conduct vehicle, facility, and operational inspections to maintain service quality and professional standards.

     

    Financial Performance & Operational Metrics

    • Collaborate with leadership on budget development, forecasting, and operational performance tracking.
    • Monitor labor, fleet, fuel, maintenance, and other operating costs.
    • Identify budget variances and implement appropriate corrective actions.
    • Analyze operational KPIs to identify trends, performance gaps, and opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
    • Balance financial performance with safety, service quality, and customer requirements.

     

    Safety, Compliance & Risk Mitigation

    • Ensure compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, federal, state, and company safety requirements.
    • Maintain a strong working knowledge of transportation safety and regulatory requirements.
    • Participate in operational audits, safety investigations, accident reviews, and corrective-action initiatives.
    • Partner with Safety and Maintenance leadership to identify risks and implement preventative measures.
    • Promote a proactive safety culture throughout all levels of the organization.

    • Develop strong relationships with employees, customers, vendors, and business partners.
    • Represent the organization professionally in customer meetings, partner discussions, industry events, and community engagements as needed.

    Schedule

    This is an exempt leadership position requiring flexibility based on operational needs. The Director of Operations may occasionally be required to work or respond to operational matters during early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Operations Management, or a related field or equivalent relevant professional experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years of operations or transportation management experience.
    • Demonstrated experience managing teams of 10 or more employees.
    • Hands-on experience with DOT compliance, transportation safety procedures, and operational training.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage daily operations while maintaining a strategic, big-picture perspective.
    • Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Ability to successfully complete all required background screening and applicable DOT drug testing.
    • Ability to satisfy applicable FMCSA and regulatory requirements for the position.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements.
    • Strong working knowledge of FMCSA regulations and federal and state transportation laws.
    • Experience managing transportation operations across multiple locations or service lines.
    • Experience launching new contracts, locations, routes, or transportation services.
    • Experience managing operational budgets and performance metrics.
    • Demonstrated success improving safety, service reliability, employee performance, and operational efficiency.

     

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Base Salary: $90,000–$110,000, commensurate with experience
